ROMANTIC
TROUT
FISHING
CABIN
in Blue Ridge,
River Mist
This week I want to talk a little bit about the mountains.
We all should know by now that the mountains are one
of my favorite places to go. Especially to take the wife.
Alot of you men may not like to be overly romatic, but
I do. And as we all know, it can get you out of hot water
sometimes!
Guys, Ihave found the perfect spot that you can take
your "significant other" for a romatic getaway and at the
same time, some really good fishing.
Only 90 minutes from Atlanta is a place of exceptional
natural beauty offering peace & quiet plus championship
trout fishing. The cabin itself is just 10 miles from Blue
Ridge, GA, which is an upscale mountain town offering
fine dining, shopping, antiquing, festival's and a vibrant
art scene. Surrounded by mountains, lakes and streams
there's plenty of opportunities for rafting, tubing, kayaking,
fishing, hiking and horseback riding. Plus, it is very
accessible from the area. Wildlife is abundant such as deer,
raccoons, hawks and eagles.
This beautiful cabin and property offers, not only trout
fishing, but, it is a water front property. It has a four
person hot tub, large televisions, very comfortable beds,
two bathrooms and many more ammenities. It offers 1400
square feet of space along with three bedrooms and two
bathrooms. There is a really nice beach area that is offered
along with towels for your convenience. Now of course,
one of my families favorite spots is the water park, that is
located on site. And of course, your loved one will enjoy
.the fire pit area with benches and chairs to relax on a
chilly night.
Now, for you anglers, the fishing is superb! It is very
quiet and the fish bite very often.
So, take your "significant other" with you and enjoy a
weekend surrounded by mountain scenery, a relaxing
atmosphere, and the best fishing you will ever find.
Happy Trails!

Little Bright
All the wildlife
around this homestead
is a little weird, but
very entertaining. This
morning a little nuthatch
was making its way
around the house climbing
up and down the window
screens eating up tiny
bugs. We were inside and
actually quite close to the
windows, but he took no
notice of us. I hope to see
him again soon.
Earlier this month we
lost our broody hen and
three of her chicks to
a fox. We came out in
the morning to find the
remaining two chicks
franticlly looking for
mom. The other hens were
chasing them, and they
were too young to be out
on their own. So, I set up
a brooder box on the front
porch. It’s plenty warm out
so they didn’t need a heat
lamp, just food and water
and a little shelter till they
grew out. Well, we lost the
boy a few days ago and the
little girl is inconsolable. I
couldn’t stand her crying
over being alone, so I set
up a cage in the laundry.
She can see us and the
dogs, but they can’t get
too close to her. She hates
being alone, so I ended
up with her tucked under
my chin watching TV
last night. Today she’s
out in the yard in a crate
getting some fresh air and
sunshine. Hubs is warning
me that we are NOT
having a house chicken.
But I miss having a pet
chicken and she’s so much
fun to cuddle. **
Moving the goats from
their bam to the pasture
has always been difficult.
They are very strong and
drag me hither and yon
trying to eat everything
they see, usually a tree or
shrub that we are trying to
coax along. One time they
got away from me and
ate the top out of a young
Longleaf pine. Killed it
dead. I had to replace that
Nancy Baker
Spots of Joy
one. Now they are a little
older and I’m a little wiser.
I didn’t want to wrestle
with them on leashes the
other day, so I got a fistful
of animal crackers, which
they love, and let them
sniff the cookies. I held
the cookies just out of
reach and led them to the
pasture. They followed so
close my toes got stepped
on. But we made it across
the yard without any side
trips for snacks. When
we got to the pasture gate
closed behind us we had
quite the little love-fest,
“One cookie for Derby,
and one for Golly. One
for Derby, one for Golly.”
They held me hostage
against the fence for
about 10 minutes once
the cookies were gone
searching my hands and
pockets. They were not
convinced that there were
no more cookies.
A tiny bird searching
for insects, a lonely little
chick, and cookie-crazy
goats, they are all bright
little spots of joy in a
sometimes-humdrum
homesteading life. It’s
moments like this that
make all the effort
worthwhile.
** While playing with the
baby chick this evening
she hopped into my lap,
up my arm, and onto
my shoulder. Then she
went around the back
of my neck to my other
shoulder. I was laughing
and thinking she was so
cute when all of a sudden,
she pulled off my pearl
earring and swallowed it!
Dam! But I can’t blame
her; she’s just a chicken
doing what chickens do.
And don’t worry; it won’t
hurt her to have swallowed
an earring. Chickens
regularly eat tiny stones to
help grind up their food in
their gizzards.
