Tremendous rain causes
train to derail
By Sarah Saxon,

I I IE TIMES
On Friday,
September 8,
Industrial Road
was briefly
disrupted when a
train car, resting
on the tracks
near the entrance
of Possum Eddy
Ace Hardware,
experienced a
shift in its weight
which caused it
to derail. This
unusual incident was attributed to the relentless rainfall brought on by Idalia which hit Screven County last
week.
Chris Parrott, the manager of the railroad track, said, "due to the tremendous rain, it caused the railroad tracks
to become submerged under water. The train car, which had been sitting on the tracks, began to shift its weight
due to being loaded down with paper. Because of this, when they moved the train car, the back end of the car
came off the track.”
The engine driver was able to move the train car back onto the tracks and clear the roadway, which had been
closed for about 30 minutes.

Screven
County - Optim
Medical Center-
Screven is proud
to announce its
partnership with
the St. Joseph's/
Candler Mobile
Mammography
unit, bringing
essential mammography
services to Screven County
and its surrounding areas. This
collaboration aims to enhance
access to vital breast cancer
screenings for the community.
The mobile mammography
unit, a symbol of medical
outreach and convenience, will
be stationed at Optim Medical
Center-Screven's parking lot twice
a month, providing residents with
an opportunity to prioritize their
breast health.
Lagina Evans, CEO of Optim
Medical Center-Screven,
expressed her enthusiasm about
this collaboration, stating, "We
are pleased to offer this service to
our citizens. Twice a month, the
mobile unit is open in our parking
lot."
The American College of
Radiology recommends annual
mammography screenings
for women beginning at the
age of 40. What makes this
initiative particularly accessible
is that patients do not require a
physician referral to avail of the
mobile service. However, there
are some essential criteria that
must be met, as Evans elaborates,
"Patients must have a primary
care physician they have seen
in the previous 18 months."
Additionally, patients should not
be pregnant or breastfeeding,
and it should have been at least
one year since their previous
mammogram.
To ensure a smooth experience
and avoid any potential delays,
Evans encourages patients
to schedule appointments.
Appointments can be made
by dialing 912-819-6140. The
St. Joseph's/Candler Mobile
Mammography unit will be
available on the first and third
Thursday of every month,
ensuring multiple opportunities
for residents to benefit from this
valuable service.
The next screening date is
September 21, 2023, providing a
timely opportunity for residents
to prioritize their breast health.
Early detection of breast cancer
through mammography is a
cmcial step in improving survival
rates and overall outcomes.
Optim Medical Center-
Screven's collaboration with
the St. Joseph's/Candler Mobile
Mammography unit underscores
their commitment to the well
being of the community. By
making these screenings more
accessible, they are taking
proactive steps to fight breast
cancer and promote better health
for all.
