Additional Mount Vernon Road paving
planned this spring
The city of Dunwoody plans to pave
Mount Vernon Road between Ash-
ford-Dunwoody Road and the Sandy
Springs border this spring.
“The need for repair of the pave
ment on the western section of Mount
Vernon Road was determined follow
ing quality testing and analysis work
performed by the city,” a press release
BRIEFS
says.
“The city anticipates the future
road work will take place over a one-
to two-day period in the spring.”
Peachtree Charter Middle School
to get new track
The long-awaited new track for
Peachtree Charter Middle School is fi
nally on its way.
In its regular newsletter, the city of
Dunwoody reports it is working with
the DeKalb County Board of Education
and plans to complete environmental
permitting to allow construction to be
gin this summer.
“The city understands the importance
of this track project to PCMS students,
families, and faculty,” the newsletter
says. “The track project is a much-antic
ipated improvement for Peachtree Char
ter Middle School and the city looks
forward to watching our students go for
gold on their new track.”
The track was on DeKalb Coun
ty Schools’ to-do list, budgeted at
$250,000, but the Board of Education
in April nearly stripped all funding from
the project because of a budget crunch.
The board eventually found a way to pay
for it.
DeKalb County CEO’s home searched
The DeKalb County District Attor
ney’s Office conducted a search war
rant Jan. 7 at the home and offices of the
county’s top elected official, Chief Exec
utive Officer Burrell Ellis.
The timing was calculated. Ellis was
busy at the time the searches began, tes
tifying before a special grand jury about
the county’s bidding process, according
to CBS Atlanta, Reporter Newspapers
broadcast partner.
“I haven’t done anything that I’m
aware of, nor has my staff done anything
I’m aware of that was inappropriate,”
Ellis said when asked about the search
warrant.
Investigators emerged from Ellis’s
Stone Mountain home carrying com
puters and boxes. Search warrants sug
gest that Ellis is suspected of bribery and
“bid rigging,” essentially doing favors for
people that helped him get elected, CBS
Atlanta said.
The investigation began when the
county’s District Attorney Robert James
convened a special grand jury to look
into the county’s bidding process. James,
the D.A., had no comment.
