GLENRIDGE/ROSWELL INTERSECTION WORK EXPECTED TO BEGIN THIS SUMMER A long-planned project to realign the Roswell Road and Glenridge Drive inter section in Sandy Springs is expected to begin in June, according to the city. The plan straightens the sharply curv ing, Y-shaped intersection and its traffic island. Construction work is expected to last about two years, said Marty Martin, the director of public works. The work will be done by the Georgia Department of Transportation because Roswell Road is a state route. Martin said extensive lane or road clo sures are not expected, other than some for a “short duration.” The existing northbound, right-turn lane into a nearby commercial proper ty on Roswell Road that is north of the intersection will be eliminated to make room for two southbound left-turn lanes onto Glenridge. An additional eastbound lane on Glenridge also is planned. BITTER RACE FOR HOUSE DISTRICT 51 SEAT COULD SEE REMATCH Last year’s bitter race for a Sandy Springs state House seat, which became a courtroom drama of criminal allega tions and a libel lawsuit, could see a re match as Republican Alex Kaufman has filed to challenge incumbent Democrat Josh McLaurin in 2020. But there may be Republican prima ry competition first in the House District 51 race, as another Republican, Grant Mc- Garry, has filed as well.
