Mrs. Frances Dianne
Ivey Barfield, age 82, of
Thomaston, died Tuesday,
March 30, 2021 at her
daughter’s residence in
Thomaston.
Mrs. Barfield was born
Feb. 22, 1939 in Thomas
ton, to the late Amos Ivey
and the late Corine Boswell
Ivey. She worked at Thom
aston Mills in the spinning
room and was a member of
Kings Chapel Baptist
Church.
In addition to her par
ents, she was preceded in
death by her husband,
Jackie Barfield; brothers,
Amos and Clyde Ivey, and
Roy McAllister; grandson,
Wesley Cummings; and
great-grandson, Kyle
Spraggins.
Survivors include her
daughters, Patricia (Jerry)
Royal of Thomaston, Bar
bara Langford of Thomas
ton, and Brenda (Lee)
Bunn of Thomaston; sons,
David "Squigg" (Lynn)
Cummings of Thomaston,
and Freddie Kilgo of Thom
aston; stepchildren, Tracy
Barfield of Thomaston and
Jacklyn Lewis of Thomas
ton; special nephew, Andy
McAllister; nieces and
nephews, Joyce, Joel, and
Gwen; 14 grandchildren
and 24 great-grandchil
dren, and two great-great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services were
held Friday, April 2, 2021
from Kings Chapel Baptist
Church. Burial followed at
Upson Memorial Gardens.

Mr. James Franklin
Carroll, age 6i, of Thomas
ton, died Thursday, April l,
2021 at the Piedmont Co
lumbus Regional Hospital.
Mr. Carroll was born in
Thomaston Jan. 4, i960, a
son of the late George
Harry Carroll and Iris Paul
ine Traylor Carroll. He was
a self-employed plumber
and construction worker.
Mr. Carroll is survived
by his wife, Melanie Mi
chelle Carroll; three daugh
ters, Ashley (Thaddeus)
Carroll-McCrary and Eve
lyn Flynt, both of Thomas
ton, and Cassie Carroll of
Akin, S.C.; two sons, Shane
(Melissa) Parker of Hen
dersonville, N.C. and Jesse
(Krystal) Carroll of Griffin;
two sisters, Vickie (David)
Musselwhite and Paula
Madsen, both of Thomas
ton; a brother, Hal Carroll
of Thomaston; and 17
grandchildren and numer
ous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr.
Carroll were held Saturday,
April 3, in the chapel of
Fletcher-Day Funeral
Home, with the Rev. Billy
Smith officiating.

Mr. John Marvin Har
ris, age 89, of Albany,
peacefully passed away Sat
urday, March 27, 2021 at
Wilson Hospice House.
Graveside funeral serv
ices were held Tuesday,
March 30, at Crown Hill
Cemetery, with Rev. Terry
Siniard officiating.
Born May 8,1931, in Ze-
bulon, Mr. Harris was the
son of the late Albert C.
Harris and Gladys Nich
olson Harris. He served his
country in the United
States Air Force and retired
after 20 years with the
Georgia Department of
Transportation. He was an
avid sports fan and enjoyed
watching the Atlanta Fal
cons and Atlanta Braves.
He also enjoyed working
crossword puzzles and was
of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents,
Mr. Harris was preceded in
death by his beloved wife,
Carolyn Bethune Harris;
granddaughter, Stacey;
great-granddaughter,
Jamie; sister, Jean; and
brother, Albert Jr.
Survivors include his
sons, Fredrick M. Harris
and Carol and Mitchael
Harris, all of Albany; sister,
Christine Taunton of
Thomaston; grandson,
Freddy; and great-grand
children, Devin, Ayden,
Ashton, and Chloe.

Thomason Sasser, age 61,
of Molena, passed away
Sunday, April 4,2021 at her
residence.
Myra was born Jan. 11,
i960, in Thomaston, to
Bobby M. McLeod and the
late J. Faye King McLeod
Roebuck. She worked as a
legal secretary for Don
Snow for more than 30
years. Myra was of the Bap
tist faith and was a member
of Clark’s Chapel Baptist
Church.
Survivors include her
husband, Rick Sasser of
Molena; father and mother,
Bobby (Margaret) McLeod;
mother-in-law, Vi Sasser of
Zebulon; daughter, Kellie J.

Oct. 29, 1967 in Thomas
ton, to Peggy Middlebrooks
Cleveland and the late
Homer Cleveland. She
worked in human resources
for the Georgia Department
of Transportation and was
a member of Fellowship
Baptist Church. In addition
to her father, she was pre
ceded in death by her sister,
Angela McCullough; and
niece, Alisha Sullivan.
Survivors include her
mother, Mrs. Peggy Cleve
land of Thomaston; daugh
ter, Miss Amber Toomey of
Thomaston; son, Mr. Adam
Toomey of Thomaston;
sisters, Mrs. Regina

passed away Sunday,
March 28, 2021 at Upson
Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were

Sons Funeral Home, lo
cated at 518 North High
tower Street in Thomaston.
Rev. Jeffery Graddick was
the eulogist. Interment fol
lowed in the Lincoln Me
morial Cemetery in
Thomaston.

four sisters, Shirley Rich

she reared as her own,

brother-in-law, Aldine
King; best friend, Clara

her very dearly.

83, of Highway 80, passed

Maurice Raines, Pastor

Mr. Williams was edu
cated in the public schools
of Upson County. He was a
member of Salem Baptist
Church. He was employed
by Martha Mills and retired
from Westex.
He was survived by
three devoted friends, Mrs.
Elouise Mann and Mr.
Thaddeus Mann, both of
Thomaston, and Mr. Jo
seph Paschal of Butler; a
devoted niece, Ms. Brenda
Williams of Douglasville,
and a devoted nephew, Mr.
Tracey Williams of Perry;
and a host of other nieces,
nephews, cousins and other
relatives and friends.

COVID-19 Update
New Cases Decline in Upson
Upson County reports
3)356 positive COVID-19
cases with 123 deaths as of
noon last Tuesday, accord
ing to the Johns Hopkins
University & Medicine Co-
ronavirus Resource Center.
Numbers reflect 28 new
cases (up from 12 last
week) and one new death
(down from two last
week) since Tuesday one
week prior. During that
time, Upson’s per capita in
fection rate increased from
12.68 to 12.79 cases per too
residents, more than l-in-
10. Pike County, at 11.84 per
too residents, and Lamar
County, at 10.48 per too,
are the only Upson-adjacent
counties exceeding i-in-10
infection rate. Taylor is at
9.65, Monroe at 9.44, and
Meriwether at 9.14 per too.
A consensus of online
sources report Georgia with
1,041,275 (up 9,230 for
the week) positive cases
and 18,625 ( U P 244 for
the week) deaths as of
noon last Tuesday. New
cases decreased from 10,746
and new deaths decreased
from 391 the previous week.
Johns Hopkins lists the
following confirmed cases
for counties bordering
Upson: Monroe, 2,564 (up
26) cases with 98 (no
change) deaths; Pike, 2,169
(up 18) with 36 (no change)
deaths; Lamar, 1,956 (up
eight) with 55 (up one)
deaths; Meriwether, 1,928
(up 18) with 79 (up four)
deaths; Taylor, 783 (up
seven) with 25 (no change)
deaths; Crawford, 654 (up
five) with 19 (up two)
deaths; and Talbot, 468 (up
five) with 17 (no change)
deaths.
Local nursing homes re
port no new cases among
residents and staff, and no
new deaths.

The Mayor and City Council will hold multiple hearings to
determine whether or not to suspend alcohol licenses on
certain businesses located inside city limits. The hearings
will be held Friday, April 16, 2021, beginning at 9 a.m. and
on Friday, April 23, 2021, beginning at 9 a.m. in the city-
county meeting room of the Thomaston-Upson Govern
ment Complex.
