Through the years, state
ments are passed down that
are not Biblically true.
I often hear in a funeral that someone will say
that the one that has died is now looking down on
us, and that is not true. I hear people say that
when someone dies that they now have a new
body, and that is not true. I hear people say that
in the last days you’ll not be able to tell one season
from another, and that is not true. How about the
saying that the Bible says that cleanliness is next
to Godliness? That is not in the scriptures.
Why are statements like this so easily believed?
I believe the main reason is that many Christians
do not read the Bible. They depend on someone
else to tell them what the Bible says, or doesn’t
say. This can lead people into serious trouble to
follow someone that says this or that and never
check to see what the Word of God teaches.
No one lives in a grave and nothing new can be
added to the Word of God, or taken away. We
really need to know what the scriptures say, be
fore we keep passing down what others say.

VOTING LAWS IN GEORGIA AND BIG BUSINESS...
Some very large corporations are speaking out against the new
Georgia voting law, but one has to ask, did they even read the new
law? Quick look... election day voting hours are the same, 7 a.m. to
7 p.m... prior to 2020, Georgia didn’t use drop boxes at all, the drop
boxes were put in place for COVID-19 emergency action, now drop
boxes are permanent... there will be two Sundays and at least one
Saturday for early voting... no one in Upson has ever voted on a
Sunday, ever, so hope this is still up to county officials... absentee
ballot requests now need at least one form of ID and the time frame
to request them has been shortened from 49 days to 29 days... not
sure why that is a problem for anyone who votes... Poll workers are
still allowed to give out water if there is a long line. However, can
didates, their workers, and special interest groups are not allowed
within a certain distance of the polls... But they have always had to
do their campaigning from a certain distance of the polls... Our state
representative Beth Camp says, “Dear Corporate Leaders- YOU DO
NOT VOTE IN MY DISTRICT. Keep your dirty money and your
erroneous views”... I agree with Rep. Camp and thought this was
also worth repeating... Don’t California my Georgia.

“A quick note about things you
should know in emergencies”
By Martha Anne McCarty
Upson EMA Director
Our children practice
fire drills at school and in
dustry practices safety
procedures to maintain
compliance with insurance
and OSHA regulations. But
the question begs to be
asked... Do you practice fire
drills at home?
Could you lie down in
your bed, put on a blindfold,
roll out of your bed to the
floor and crawl to a door
and make it outside in less
than two minutes? I chal
lenge you to do this. It could
save your life. You have to
stay low to the floor to es
cape the intense heat and
toxic smoke. Cooler, cleaner
air will be at floor level.
Crawl to make your escape
from a burning room or
building.
Home safety should in
clude a planned escape
route in two directions from
each room in your home.
Ensure that the elderly, the
young, and the special
needs individual are pro
vided assistance in escaping
the fire. NEVER go back
into a burning building.
You should have a work
ing smoke detector on every
level of your home. Change
the batteries annually. Have
a fire extinguisher in your
home, preferably in the
kitchen. Remember PASS to
use your extinguisher: Pull
the pin, aim at the base of
the fire, squeeze the trigger,
and sweep from side to side
to surround the fire with the
chemical extinguishing ma
terial. If you can’t get to it
and use it within 30 sec
onds, get out.
Establish a meeting
place outside of your home
where family members can
rendezvous once they are
out of the house.
Remember these four
things about a fire: DARK,
SMOKE, HEAT, TIME.
A fire is DARK, you can
not see inside in a fire.
SMOKE is toxic, poisonous,
deadly. HEAT is tremen
dous. You can die when ex
posed to temperatures of
150°F or greater. Fires
create heat above 650°F at
chest level. TIME is pre
cious. Don’t waste it. Fire
can be out of control in less
than 30 seconds. Fire can
completely engulf a res
idence in less than four mi
nutes.
A fire must have three
things to burn. It has to
have fuel, it has to have a
source of ignition and it has
to have air. Air is the largest
of these three. But it is also
the easiest to take away.
Limit the air, and the fire
will go out. Put a lid on a
grease fire. You cut off its
supply of oxygen. It will go
out. NEVER put water on a
grease fire. It will explode.
Practice home safety
and check your insurance
policy - whether home
owner’s or renter’s - to en
sure you have adequate
coverage to replace valu
ables and living space lost in
a fire.
