Thomaston 18-Year-Old Wins Money for College
by Sharing Her Dreams for the Future
18-year-old Thomas
ton native Victoria Cliff
was recently awarded a
$1,529 contribution to her
Path2College 529 Plan ac
count as one of eight state
wide winners of the “My
Life’s Dream Challenge.”
The challenge encour
aged students across the
state to create an original
work detailing their life’s
dreams. Victoria shared
her dreams, entitled “Just
too many to list,” through
a drawing of imagining
graphics, arts, video game
design, and literature.
“Investing in
Path2College allows our
daughter to enter the new
adventure of entering col
lege without having to se
cure student loans. We
saw the Path2College My
Dream Challenge as a way
for her to express her cre
ative talents. We thought
that it would have been
nice to win, and thank
fully, she did, but not
being afraid to try some
thing new, to step out, no
matter the outcome, is an
important life lesson,”
said Penny Cliff, Victoria’s
mom. “Winning is the
icing on the cake. We are
grateful that Path2College
My Dream Challenge is
one way to experience this
life lesson. We are very
proud of our daughter for
expressing her dream
through this challenge.”
Winners were chosen
from four regions of the
state and were judged
based on creativity and
originality. Winning en
tries can be viewed at

“Thinking about and
planning for the future
helps ensure success,” said
Georgia Student Finance
Commission President
Lynne Riley. “We had en
tries from children across
the state, and it was clear
that this challenge got
them thinking about their
future. Participation in the
contest helps motivate
them to achieve their aca
demic goals, and creating
a financial plan is an ex
cellent way to provide for
that success.”

Beverly wins Georgia Farm Bureau
Essay Contest District Award
Avery Beverly was re
cently named a district
winner in the 2021 Georgia
Farm Bureau Middle School
Essay Contest.
Beverly was a seventh-
grade student at Upson Lee
Middle School when she
wrote her winning essay ear
lier this year. She is the
daughter of Jason and
Mandi Beverly of Thomas
ton.
She won a $100 prize for
being the top winner from
Georgia Farm Bureau’s Fifth
District, which includes 17
counties in West Central
Georgia. Beverly’s essay can
be read at www.gfb.ag/Bev-
erlyessay.
The contest was open to
all public, private, and
home-schooled sixth
through eighth graders in
Georgia. The 45 county
Farm Bureaus that held local
contests submitted their top
winners to GFB, from which
10 district winners and a
state winner were chosen.
Essays were judged on clar
ity of thought and writing
skill.
Students were encour
aged to explore GFB’s Certi
fied Farm Market and Farm
Passport program in writing
their essays. In their essays,
students were asked to ad
dress the contest question:
How do GFB Certified Farm
Markets and agritourism
benefit farmers and con
sumers?
“Georgia Farm Bureau’s
Middle School Essay Contest
is where research and crea
tivity meet. A topic is pro
vided, the students do the
research, and then they help
tell the story of agriculture,”
said GFB Women’s Leader
ship Committee Chairman
Heather Cabe. “Tackling a
writing prompt outside of
assigned classroom curricu
lum is no small task. It
makes me extremely excited
to see students going the
extra mile for agriculture!”
The Georgia Farm Bu
reau Women’s Leadership
Committee coordinated the
statewide contest. Locally,
Upson County Farm Bureau
coordinated the contest.
“We are proud of Avery
for being selected as the
Fifth District winner of the
Georgia Farm Bureau Essay
Contest,” said Upson County
Farm Bureau Women’s
Committee Chairman. “On
behalf of Upson County
Farm Bureau, I would like to
thank the students and
teachers who participated in
our essay contest.”
