HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO MR. JEROME
STALLINGS... Mr. Jerome’s 77th birthday, June 6,
1944, also marks the 77th anniversary of D Day... During
World War II (1939-1945), the Battle of Normandy,
which lasted from June 1944 to August 1944, resulted in
the Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Ger
many’s control. Codenamed Operation Overlord, the bat
tle began on June 6, 1944, also known as D-Day, when
some 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces
landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the
heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region. The
invasion was one of the largest amphibious military as
saults in history and required extensive planning. Prior
to D-Day, the Allies conducted a large-scale deception
campaign designed to mislead the Germans about the in
tended invasion target. By late August 1944, all of north
ern France had been liberated, and by the following
spring the Allies had defeated the Germans. The Nor
mandy landings have been called the beginning of the
end of war in Europe.

The liquor trail continues in
our community and now it will
be easy to have more liquor as
the city council can just put package liquor on the ballot
in November. Don’t worry liquor crowd, because it will
pass as the other ballots passed. It has been evident in
the past that there are not enough Christians to stop it.
Churches and pastors have not spoken up or stood up
in opposition to alcohol sales.
Recently, several stores that sell alcohol were
caught selling to underage and rest assured this will
continue. A recent statistic is 40 percent of the acci
dents during Memorial Day weekend were alcohol re
lated. Of course, the lies will be told how more industry
will come here and we will be able to build more rec
reation parks and the taxes will be lower.
I asked a preacher during the last voting for alcohol
why he didn’t get involved and he said that no one came
to him about it. Well, a God-called preacher should not
wait until someone comes, because God called us to
preach and stand on His Word in the four walls of a
church and in the public as well.
I and the church that I pastor will be involved, and
our stand will most likely be defeated. But we know that
we can’t please God and man, so we’ll just do our best
to please God.
