Militia Group Now on Grays Chapel Road
Third Training Settlement to Appear in Upson County Since March
Sheriff Dan Kilgore
said he is “concerned”
about a third militia-re
lated training settlement
which has surfaced in
Upson County.
The group allegedly is
tied to the Not F**king
Around Coalition,
members of which were
discovered training on
Kendall Road in Yatesville
in March. Another “tent
city” recently was erected
on Rest Haven Road,
drawing attention from
county commissioners and
law enforcement, but
weapons inspected were
loaded with blanks.
The most recent site,
located on Grays Chapel
Road off Highway 74 East
near Yatesville, reportedly
is training with live ammu
nition.
“We are concerned,”
Kilgore said. “We have
contacted the [Georgia Bu
reau of Investigation] and
the [Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, Firearms, and
Explosives] for guidance.”
Property owners of the
initial occupied site on
Kendall Road asked militia
members to vacate the
premises, citing a misun
derstanding regarding
permission to train there.
The group evacuated with
out incident.

Another apparent training site has been reported on Grays Chapel Road in eastern Upson County.
Sheriff Dan Kilgore has consulted with the GBI and ATF, but says options for action are
limited by existing state laws and local ordinances.

A community-wide

Captain Joey Theil

community and public
safety agencies work to
gether the way they
should. You all made my
job so much easier as inci
dent commander. Al
though the incident didn’t
end the way we had hoped
or prayed for, take comfort
in the truth that in the end,
God has the final say in ev
erything we do. I ask that
you all keep Mr. Walker’s
family in your prayers.”
Theil thanked everyone
who assisted Thomaston
Fire Department’s two-day
