A few days ago, my wife and
I celebrated our 54th wedding
anniversary. We had our first
date on March 28, 1965 and dated two years, two
months and 22 days.
I realize that we’re not the only marriage that has
what we have, but I wish that all would. You see, I still
look forward to going home each day, because I’m
going home to my best friend.
When I was called by God to preach in 1977, she
said, “Let’s go,” because He had informed her of the
call. When we left our families behind in 1982 and
moved to Thomaston to pastor, she said, “Let’s go.” All
the years have not been a bed of roses, but God has
walked each step with us.
We now look back at all the memories and we often
talk about the years of yesterday. One of the most dif
ficult times was when we were separated while I was in
Vietnam in 1968 and 1969.
During these days I love to preach and pastor more
than ever. The power of God is so real and we really be
lieve that God has saved the best for last.
Someone may ask what it is that made all of this so
special. Well, when I told my daddy that we were going
to get married, he said, “Invite Jesus to your wedding
and take Him home with you.”
We did!
