Mrs. Patricia "Pat"
Azalea Gibson Marshall,
age 72, of Thomaston, died
Sunday, July 4, 2021, at
her residence.
Mrs. Marshall was
born Sept. 24, 1948, in
Upson County, to the late
William S. and Martha
Thompson Gibson. She
worked for Thomaston
Mills, Carter’s, Ritz Cafe,
and TV10 Gospel Tracks,
and was a faithful member
of Mountain View Baptist
Church.
She was preceded in
death by her parents, Wil
liam and Martha Gibson;
husband, James David
Marshall; sister, Kathy
Neeley; and sister-in-law,
Bonnie Wine.
Survivors include her
sons, Tim Gordy and
Chase (Susan) Marshall;
sister, Willene Melder;
sisters-in-law, Barbara
Smith and Helen (Ricky)
Anderson; brother, Chuck
(Mary) Gibson; brother-
in-law, Johnny (Darlene)
Marshall; and grandson,
Logan Gordy.
Funeral services for
Mrs. Marshall were held
Wednesday, July 7, at
Mountain View Baptist
Church. Graveside services
were Wednesday, July 7, at
Griffin Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, me
morial donations may be

Joanne Beckham
Reeves, age 73, of Thomas
ton, passed away June 28,
2021, at her home.
She was born in Thom
aston Sept. 9,1947, daugh
ter of the late Edward
Beckham and Vivian
Quinn Beckham. Joanne
graduated from R.E. Lee
Institute and then earned
her bachelor’s degree from
Mercer University. She
worked for Upson County
DFACS and was currently
working at Walmart in
Thomaston.
Joanne liked to gam
ble, lie in the sun, and go
on cruises. She was always
laughing and was loved by
everyone. She especially
enjoyed spending time
with her daughters and
her grandchildren.
In addition to her par
ents, she was preceded in
death by her brother,
Eddie Beckham.
She is survived by her
daughters, Christy Pope
and Julie Peoples (Rod
ney), all of Thomaston;
grandchildren, Ivy Pope
Bridges (Mason), Brody
Peoples, and Emma Kate
Peoples.
A memorial service was
held July 2 in the chapel of
Moody-Daniel Funeral
Home. Moody-Daniel Fu
neral Home is assisting the
family with arrangements.

ican Revolution will be held at
11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 in
the Fellowship Hall of First
Baptist Church of Thomas
ton, according to a press re
lease from DAR.
First Baptist is located at
208 South Church Street in
Thomaston.
“It is never too late to say
‘Thank you’ for serving in the
military,” the release stated.
“The Vietnam War veterans
never received that - no sim
ple acknowledgment of their
personal sacrifice for military
service to our country during
the Vietnam War.”
In conjunction with the
Defense Department’s ongo
ing 50th Anniversary Com
memoration of the Vietnam
War, the Georgia Department
of Veterans Service, in part
nership with the office of Gov.
Brian Kemp, has created the
Vietnam War Certificate of
Honor program for the vet
erans. The ceremony will in
volve presentation of the
Defense Department’s Viet
nam War 50th Anniversary
Lapel Pin and the State Cer
tificate of Honor.
Every veteran with honor
able military service during
the Vietnam War (Nov. 1,
1955 to May 15,1975), regard
less of location, is eligible to
receive the certificate and
lapel pin (includes veterans
with service in-country or
elsewhere and those who
served in other capacities).
Each certificate is person
alized with the Vietnam War
veteran’s name, rank, branch
of service, dates of service
printed over the Seal of the
State of Georgia, and includes
the official U.S. Department
of Defense’s Vietnam War
Commemorative Partner
logo. They are signed by Gov.
Kemp and GDVS Commis
sioner Mike Roby.
Veterans wishing to par
ticipate are asked to provide
their name, rank, branch of
service, dates of service,
phone number, and email ad
dress to L. Hallman, DAR at

with the Upson Historical
Society to help promote
the preservation of Upson
County's rich history.

ology Day featured the
stories of Native Ameri
cans along with identifica
tion of historic artifacts.
The day also featured a
tour of the Pettigrew-
White-Stamps House with
games and teachings of
skills used when the house
was functioning.
“The Pettigrew-White-
Stamps House’s main
structure was built in
1833. It contains many ar
tifacts from the new set
tlers in this area during
this time period. This
house is a direct time link,
as Georgia Land Lottery
Settlers replaced the
former Native American
inhabitants who also left
many artifacts,” said Joe
Gazafy, Upson Historical
Society president.

Upson County reports
3,518 positive COVID-19
cases with 133 deaths as
of noon last Tuesday, ac
cording to the Johns
Hopkins University &
Medicine Coronavirus
Resource Center.
Numbers reflect four
new cases (up from two
last week) and no new
deaths (no change)
since Tuesday one week
prior. During that time,
Upson’s per capita infec
tion rate increased
slightly to 13.41 cases per
too residents. Pike
County, at 12.9 per too
residents, and Lamar
County, at 11.1 per too,
are the only Upson-adja
cent counties also ex
ceeding i-in-10 infection
rate. Monroe is at 9.99,
Taylor at 9.97, and Meri
wether at 9.79 per too.
