City Hosts Rural Zone Lunch and Learn
Businesses Within Rural Zone are Eligible
for Job Tax, Investment, and Rehabilitation Tax Credits
Luke Haney
Lifestyles Editor
lhaney@upsonbeacon.com
Many community
members and business
owners visited Xchelon Cat
ering and Event Center on
Friday to learn about the
Rural Zone Application,
which is useful for busi
nesses located within the
newly designated Rural
Zone in Thomaston.
The City of Thomaston
hosted the lunch and learn
event and Cherie Bennett of
the Georgia Department of
Community Affairs was
present to explain the appli
cation process and answer
questions.
Thomaston, along with
nine other Georgia cities,
was awarded a Rural Zone
Designation earlier in the
year and will hold the des
ignation for the next five
years, starting Jan. 1. Since
its creation in 2017, the ini
tiative provides tax credits
to individuals creating jobs
and making qualifying in
vestments within historic
downtown areas that have
been designated as Rural
Zones.
Zones are designated by
commissioners of GDCA
and Georgia Department of
Economic Development.
The initiative provides op
portunities for job tax, in
vestment, and
rehabilitation tax credits.
These are dollar-for-dollar
reductions of the income
taxes owed and are non-re-
fundable. Recipients may
use the credit up to the
amount of one’s tax liabil
ity, and the remainder is

The celebration of July 4th
is not called happy holiday
and President’s Day is not call happy holiday. There
are other special dates of the year that are not called
happy holiday. The liberal government and liberal
people are offended with two words, “Merry Christ
mas.”
We should not be shocked about this because
Jesus said in John 15:18, “If the world hates you, ye
know that it hated me before it hated you.”
You may think with all the Christmas songs and
with all the Christmas decorations that we have a na
tion filled with blood-washed, blood-bought chil
dren of God. You know that is far from the truth.
This nation is as farther from the Lord Jesus Christ
than we have ever been.
The council commanded Peter and John that
they should stop speaking at all, nor teach in the
name of Jesus. The response from Peter and John
was they could not help but speak the things which
they have seen and heard.
Christians should never hesitate to say, “Merry
Christmas.”
