With a clear sky and a light breeze, it was time to slide on the cowboy boots and get on the dance floor to raise money for Wee Books. The 11th annual barn dance held at Kinsey Family Farm in Gainesville was a big success, with many familiar faces com ing out to dance the night away as well as many fresh faces excited for their first barn dance. After a delicious dinner catered by Jim ‘N Nick’s BBQ and free ice cream sandwiches from Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, guests were ready to hit the floor and dance. Everyone smiled and laughed as they twirled around the open barn. With good music and a beautiful sunset over the farm, it was the perfect date night for couples and the perfect family night activity. Dawson County Wee Books is a local nonprofit organization that puts free, age-appropriate books in the hands of children ages 0-5 in Dawson County every month. With close to 900 kids enrolled in the free pro gram, Wee Books has their work cut out for them raising the $25,000 needed to keep the program thriving every year. The program is made possi ble by a partnership with the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy and the WEE Books Community Action Team. At their annual Leap for Literacy in February, Wee Books raised over $5,000, but this year’s barn dance sur passed that with over $6,000 raised in sponsorships alone. In total, the bam dance raised $8,500 according to organizers.
