Two join board of Good Shepherd Clinic

Debbie Duke and Brooke
Anderson have joined the board
of the Good Shepherd Clinic of
Dawson County after being
approved at a board meeting last
week.
The clinic is a 501(c)(3) that
provides free medical, dental,
vision, hearing and prescription
medications to eligible residents
of Dawson County who are
uninsured and cannot afford
healthcare.
Duke is a Healthcare
Executive Consultant with over
30 years of academic and not-
for-profit experience leading
hospital and physician practice
operations in a multihospital
system, according to her bio.
She is currently director of
Client Services for SG&A
Duke Anderson
Services, LLC, responsible for
client services to include needs
assessment, project structural
review and development of con
sultative services needed by cli
ents.
Between 1998 and 2017 she
served as executive director of
Imaging, Neurosciences,
Bariatric, Oncology Service
Lines for Northeast Georgia
Health System in Gainesville.
Prior to that she served as
administrator of radiology/cardi
ology at Emory Clinic in
Atlanta. She received a bache
lor’s degree in medical science
from Emory University in
Atlanta and a master’s degree
healthcare administration from
the University of St. Francis in
Chicago, Ill.
Duke is a member of the
American College of Healthcare
Executives, is Founding Chair
of Rotarian of Hall County and
is an Advisory Board Member
of Lanier Technical College.
Anderson is general manager
of Etowah Water and Sewer
Authority.
According to his bio, he has
guided the expansion of the
water treatment facility, water
reclamation facility, conversion
to a fixed base meter reading
system, obtaining a Section 404
permit for the Russell Creek
Reservoir as well as improve
ments to the water system,
sewer system, operations and
customer service.
He is a member of the
American Water Works
Association and the Georgia
Association of Water
Professionals, is the chairman of
the Small to Medium Systems
Committee and is a member of
the Legislative Committee for
the Georgia Association of
Water Professionals. He cur
rently serves as chairman of the
North Georgia Water Resources
Partnership, and was appointed
by Governor Nathan Deal to
serve on the Coosa-North
Georgia Regional Water
Planning Council.
Anderson served as the presi
dent of the Rotary Club of
Dawson County, and currently
serves on the School
Governance Council for
Robinson Elementary School
and the Dawson County Junior
High School. He also serves as
chairman of the System
Governance Council.
Their election to the board
was unanimous.
“Duke brings many years of
healthcare experience in hospi
tals and as a consultant to the
healthcare industry,
and Anderson is well known in
our community as an advocate
for the underprivileged in many
organizations,” said Jane
Stuckey, chair of the board of
directors. “I look forward to
working with both of these pro
fessionals as Good Shepherd
Clinic moves into the future pro
viding healthcare for those that
have none in Dawson County.”
‘Race for Grace’ raises money in memory of student

The community came
together in a big way
this past weekend to
make the first ‘Race for
Grace’ 5k an event to
remember, according to
Megan Sanders Crane of
Dawsonville Fit Body
Boot Camp.
“The first annual Race
for Grace 5K was a huge
success,” Crane said. “A
sincere thank you to all
of our sponsors, vendors,
volunteers and partici
pants that made this
event possible. With
such a positive atmo
sphere we were easily
able to feel Grace’s pres
ence.”
The fitness center
sponsored the first of
what will surely be many
races in honor of Grace
Sheer, a Dawson County
High School senior who
died in a car wreck in
February. A scholarship
fund has been set up in
her name and will pro
vide a scholarship for
one female athlete at
DCHS who exemplifies
Sheer through her work
ethic, kindness and dedi
cation not only to athlet
ics but also academically
and with her outstanding
character.

ed the race at Veteran’s
Memorial Park in
Dawsonville on July 14.
Though official num
bers aren’t in yet, Crane
said that the race raised
around $7,000 for the
fund.

Crane said that Sheer’s
mother Robin is a mem
ber of Dawsonville Fit
Body, and that she
noticed how deeply
upset the gym family
and the community were
about the 18-year-old’s
passing.
“I instantly started
brainstorming with our
gym owner, Sierra
Nobles, about what we
could do,” Crane said.
“We wanted to offer
something that would
allow Grace’s joy to
shed light on our com
munity in their time of
hurt while also building
a legacy for Grace.
“Being an alumnus of
Dawson County athletics
myself, I was very pas
sionate about offering a
scholarship opportunity
for the female athletes of
Dawson County. I am
super excited to watch
this foundation grow and
see how many more lives
Grace continues to
touch.”

Sheer, Grace’s parents,
said they wanted to
thank Nobles, Crane and
the whole Fit Body Boot
Camp family for their
work setting up the 5k.
“We were thrilled and
honored at the turn out
for the race for Grace 5K
in Dawsonville,” they
said. “Our community
has been nothing short of
miraculous for our fami
ly throughout all of this.
Grace would have been
so pleased. She would
have absolutely loved it.”

the motion. It was
approved unanimously.
According to bid docu
ments, the work will
include demolition and
removal of two houses,
one shed and one drive
way as well as clearing
trees and undergrowth
and sowing grass seed
and hay on the site of the
future farmers market.
The city council is
scheduled to vote July 23
to rezone the two proper
ties from residential and
planned unit develop
ment to an institutional
zoning.
The Dawsonville plan
ning commission voted
July 9 to recommend
approval of both rezon-
ings, and no one spoke at
the council’s public hear
ing. One more hearing
will be held July 23, at
which point the rezon-
ings could be approved.
“We are not required to
have the rezoning com
plete just to do a demoli
tion but before we start
construction on it we will
have to have the rezoning
done,” Mayor Mike
Eason said at the meeting
July 9. “If you can see
out this window, that’s
where the farmers market
will be. Hopefully we’ll
have it done in a few
months.”

complete and Davis

ing the project. A
groundbreaking is sched
uled for July 23.
The city purchased the
property at 82 Allen
Street in March for
$90,000.
The project is funded
by SPLOST funds.
