OBITUARIES
Cecil Lyman Bennett
Cecil Lyman Bennett,
79, of Dawsonville, died
July 30, 2018.
Born April 15, 1939 to
the late Laina Bennett
and Gladys Jenkins
Bennett, he was a life
long resident of Dawson
County. Cecil retired
from Vineland Labs fol
lowing 37 years of ser
vice after which he
became a Community
Liaison at Walmart
where many will remem
ber his warm wit and
friendly smile.
Mr. Bennett’s civic
contributions included
serving on the Dawson
County Board of
Commissioners and serv
ing 25 years on the
Dawson County Board of
Education. He was a
member of Liberty
Baptist Church where he
served as a deacon for 51
years as well as numer
ous other church posi
tions and responsibilities.
Cecil considered his
greatest accomplishment
and main source of hap
piness his wife, children,
grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
His brother, Troy Lane
Bennett, and son-in-law,
Bobby Bagby, preceded
him in death.
Survivors include his
wife of 57 years, Sandra
Tatum Bennett of
Dawsonville; children,
Teresa and Phillip Burt
of Dawsonville, Penny
Bagby of Zeeland,
Mich., Russ and Susan
Bennett of Dawsonville;
grandchildren, Lauren
and Blake Samples,
Raina and Kyle Baker,
Mallory and Jimmy
Bayer, Chelsea Bagby,
Ben Bagby, Jake
Bennett, Eli Bennett;
great-grandchildren,
Lainey Baker, Silas
Baker, Peyton Samples,
Gracelyn Baker; brothers
and sisters-in-law, Wayne
and Diane Bennett of

and Kathy Bennett of

Funeral services were
held at 2 p.m. Aug. 3 at
Liberty Baptist Church
with Rev. Dennis
Bottoms, Rev. Phillip
Burt and Rev. Stephen
Davis officiating.
Interment followed in the
church cemetery.
The family received
friends from 1 p.m. until
8 p.m. Aug. 2 at the
funeral home.

Bobby E. "Bob" Dills
Bobby E. “Bob” Dills,
83, of Dawsonville, died
Aug. 3, 2018.
Born Feb. 15, 1935 to
the late Mack and Essie
Dills, he had lived in
Dawson County since
2002 having moved from
Winder.
Mr. Dills worked in
commercial construction
for over 45 years. He was
a U.S. Navy veteran of
the Korean Conflict and
enjoyed fishing, wood
working and spending
time with his family. He
was a member of the
Duluth Church of God.
His brothers, Frank
Dills, Barney Dills; sis
ter, Louise Sprinler; and
a sister-in-law, Norine
Dills, preceded him in
death.
Survivors include his
wife of 33 years, Judy
Dills of Dawsonville;
daughters and son-in-
law, Sabrina and Stanley
Samuel of Norcross;
Heather Dills of
Royston; stepchildren,
David and Janice
Picklesimer of
Cumming, Brenda and
Tim Phillips of
Maryland; grandchildren,
Tyler McFarland, Trey
McFarland, Jessi
Samuel, John Samuel,
Taylor Picklesimer,
Madison Picklesimer,
Jessica Garrett and
Abigail Phillips; great-
granddaughter, Karsyn

George F. Henderson,
87, of Cumming, former
ly of Dawsonville, died
Aug. 4, 2018.
Born Aug. 20, 1930 in
Detroit, Mich, to the late
Charles F. and Bessie
Henderson, he grew up
in Rome, Georgia and
has lived in this area for
16 years having moved
from Knoxville, Tenn.
Mr. Henderson retired
as a mechanic for
Eastern Airlines follow
ing 17 years of service.
George was a proud U.S.
Navy veteran of the
Korean Conflict. He
enjoyed fishing, wood
working, reading, cross
word puzzles, spending
time on his computer
building websites and
enjoyed his Facebook
friends.
His wife of 55 years,
Barbara Sue Henderson;
son-in-law, Matthew Van
Vliet; grandsons, Brian
Hawkins, Kevin Beall;
great-granddaughter,
Laura Leigh Brooks; sis
ter, Ethel Gribble; and
brothers, Ed Henderson
and Charles Henderson,
preceded him in death.
Survivors include his
children, Donna and Don
Owen of Cumming;
Cathy Abbott of
Cumming; Bruce and
Louanne Henderson of
Cumming; Gina Van
Vliet of Dawsonville;
grandchildren, Krista and
David Howland, Danielle
and Micha Purvis, Justin

follow in Dawsonville
Memorial Gardens.

3 p.m. Aug. 17 at the
funeral home.

Donna Sue Roland
Donna Sue Roland,
age 58, of Dawsonville,
died Aug. 4, 2018.
Donna was born in Tate
on Oct. 14, 1959.
Donna loved her nieces
and nephews very much.
In fact, to say she spoiled
them is an understate
ment. She loved every
one she met and that love
was given right back to
her. Donna was as spe
cial and unique as any
one could be and will be
greatly missed by her
family. She was an avid
Atlanta Braves fan and a
member of Concord
Baptist Church in Silver
City.
Her father, Donas D.
Roland, and brother,
Dennis Roland, preceded
her in death.
Survivors include her
loving mother Estelle
Roland of Dawsonville;
brother and sister-in-law,
Doyal and Deborah
Roland of Murrayville;
sister and brother-in-law
Darlene Rebecca and
Allen Stone of
Dawsonville; several
nieces, nephews, great
nieces, a great nephew
and a great-great niece;
various other relatives
also survive.
Funeral services were
held at 2 p.m. Aug. 7 in
the chapel of Banister
Funeral Home. The Rev.
Danny Spurr officiated.
Interment followed in
Amicalola Baptist
Church Cemetery.
The family received
friends from 4 to 9 p.m.
Aug. 6 at the funeral
home.

Burnett “Barry”
Watkins, 8 3, of
Dawsonville, died July
30, 2018.
Born June 29, 1935 to
the late BJ and Lucille
Watkins, Mr. Watkins
had been a resident of
Dawson County for 20
years. He worked at
Lockheed for over 40
years until his retire
ment. He enjoyed square
dancing and attended
Lighthouse Baptist
Church in Dawsonville.
Survivors include his
wife, Dot Williams of
Dawsonville; children,
Joy and Dennis Johnson
of Dublin, Burnett
Watkins Jr. of California,
Melanie and Charles
McCollum of
McDonough; six grand
children; four great
grandchildren; various
other relatives also sur
vive.
Memorial services will
be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 13
at Georgia National
Cemetery. Dr. Charles
Blackstock will officiate.

Aug. 6, 2018.
She was born to the
late William and Sally
McKinney. She was a
loving mother, grand
mother that loved spend
ing time with her family.
Her husband, Edwin
Willis, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include her
children, Ollie Willis of
Dawsonville, May and
James Barnes, Patricia
Willis, Ronald and
Carolyn Willis, all of
Dawsonville, and James
and Margie Willis of
Gainesville, Ga.; special

Sarina; nine grandchil
