Phyllis Elaine Bates
Mrs. Phyllis Bates, 59,
of Talking Rock, died
My 22, 2018.
Survivors include her

Talking Rock; daughter
and son-in-law, Melinda
and Tony Hancock of
Jasper; brother and sister-
in-law, Ryan and Donna
Wilson of Jasper; sisters,
Willine White of
Cumming, Joyce Martin
of Cumming; sisters-in-
law, Sherea and Ron
Chester of Jasper, Becky
Bates of Talking Rock; a
host of nieces, nephews
and great-nieces; various
other relatives also sur
vive.
Funeral services were
held at 11 a.m. July 24 in
the Cagle Funeral Home
chapel.
Internment at Sunrise
Memorial Gardens imme
diately followed the ser
vice.
Cagle Funeral Home of
Jasper was in charge of
the arrangements.

Anna Lee Martin
Anna Lee Martin, 72,
of Dawsonville, died Aug.
11,2018.
Having recently moved
from Stockbridge, Anna
had been a resident of the
Dawsonville/Cumming
area for less than a year.
She graduated in 1964
from Avondale High
School in Decatur, origi
nally having been born
and bred in Gadsden, Ala.
Her husband, Ronald
Lee Martin; parents
William and Kathryn
Wall Rudd; brothers,
William David Rudd,
John Edward Rudd and
Walter Jefferson Rudd,
preceded her in death.
Survivors include her
daughter Mary (Michael)
Sokolowsky of
Gainesville; sisters
Virginia (Chris) Pratt of
Petaluma, Calif.,
Kathleen (Bill) Peacock
of Jonesboro and Venita
Rudd of Cornelia; many
nieces, nephews, great-
nephews and a great-
niece; various other rela
tives also survive.
The family celebrated
her life by receiving
friends from 3 p.m. to 5
p.m. Aug. 18 at
McDonald and Son
Funeral Home.

Stanley
Clarence Jeral Stanley,
87, of Dahlonega, died
Aug. 13,2018.
He was bom to the late
Samuel and Roma
Stanley. Clarence was a
member of High Shoals
Baptist Church. He was a
Minister of the Gospel for
more than 40 years at
which times he pastored
High Shoals, New Bethel,
Pleasant Hill and
Christian Hill Baptist
Churches. Clarence was
a United States Army
Veteran who served dur
ing the Korean War and
was an avid deer hunter.
His sister, Marjorie
Bearden, and son-in-law,
Gary Hughes, preceded
him in death.
Survivors include his
loving wife of 67 years,

Dahlonega; children,
Barbara Hughes of
Cumming, Linda and
Barry Hill of Cumming,
Gail and Paul Chapman
of Charlotte, N.C., Hope

p.m. Aug. 15 and Aug. 16
and from 1 p.m. until the
service time Aug. 17.

Clifford Leroy Tyson
Clifford Leroy Tyson,
92, of Cumming, died
Aug. 17, 2018.
Mr. Tyson was a loving
husband, father, “Paw
Paw,” and great-grand-
daddy. He was a self-
employed tile contractor
and owner of Tyson Tile
Company. He was one of
the most sought-after tile
contractors in the Atlanta
area in his 50 year career.
He was an avid fisher
man, hunter and gardener.
He loved music, dancing,
and entertaining others
with his Elvis and
Conway Twitty imperson
ations. He never met a
stranger and was a great
friend to everyone.
Mr. Tyson was a WWII
veteran who served with
35th Division, Battery B,
216th Field Artillery.
Clifford fought in five
major battles in
Normandy, northern
France, Rhineland,
Ardennes (Battle of The
Bulge) and Central
Europe. His Medals
include American
Service, Good Conduct,
WWII Victory and
European-African-Middle
Eastern Service with 1
Silver Star.
His wife, Lerah
Sterling Tyson; infant
son, Johnny; sisters, Aline
Coleman, Lorraine
Comeaux, Myrtle Griffin,
Thelma Stripling; broth
ers, Robert Tyson, Junior
Tyson and James Griffin,
preceded him in death.
Survivors include his

Cemetery with the funeral
procession departing

12 p.m.
The family received
friends from 2 p.m. to 6
p.m. Aug. 19 and from 10
a.m. to 11 a.m. Aug. 20 at
the funeral home.

A Texas man is cur
rently being held at the
Dawson County
Detention Center without
bail after he was arrested
on several felony and
misdemeanor charges
including aggravated
sodomy, sexual exploita
tion of children and
incest.
John Melvin Fontenot,
45, was arrested August
15 on one count each of
aggravated sodomy,
incest, sexual exploita
tion of children, false
imprisonment and aggra
vated assault, all felonies.
He was also arrested
on one misdemeanor
count of sexual battery
and on misdemeanor
counts of furnishing alco
hol to a minor and con
tributing to the delin
quency of a minor.
Dawson County Sheriff
Jeff Johnson stated that
warrants accuse Fontenot
of enticing a 17-year-old
female to engage in a
sexual act, intentionally
making
physical
contact
with the
intimate
body
parts of
t h e
female
without
her con
sent, forcibly grabbing
and holding the victim
while committing a sexu
al act against her will as
well as engaging in
aggravated sodomy with
a female who he knows
to be related to him. He
is also accused of
assaulting the victim by
placing his hand around
her throat and restricting
her breathing.
Johnson said the inci
dent was reported to have
occurred overnight
between Aug. 9 and 10,
and was reported to
authorities on Aug. 10.
