one with mental illness
can be a challenge. But
there's hope - and help -
available, right here in
Gainesville. Beginning
Sept. 10, a free 12-week
course will be offered
that can make a big dif
ference in your family.
Classes will meet at 6:30
p.m. each Monday at First
Baptist Church, located at

cacy group will offer
free educational classes
for family and friends of
individuals living with a
mental illness. The local
affiliate of the National
Alliance on Mental
Illness, or NAMI, will offer

Ninth District
Opportunity will soon
begin the annual Energy
Assistance Program
(LIHEAP), where citizens
can apply for assistance
with home heating bills.
Appointments can be
scheduled beginning
Nov. 1 and is open only
to seniors 65 and older
and shut-ins of any age.
All those who do not
meet the above criteria
will be able to call on
Dec. 1 to schedule their
appointments. The
Georgia Department of
Human Services will help
pay the heating costs for
gas or electric for eligible
applicants.
The Dawson County
School System will be
hosting its inaugural
1 Dawson Learning
Academy next month for
parents and community
members to learn more
about each and every
department of the school
system.The learning
academy will take place
over twoTuesdays, from
4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 11
and Sept. 18 at the
Professional
Development Center at
30 Main St.Those inter
ested in attending are
asked to come to both
days, though it is not
required. Space for the
event is limited and those
interested are asked to
