Good Shepherd Clinic to celebrate another year with annual brunch By Allie Dean adean@dawsonnews.com A brunch celebration Sunday, Sept. 9 will support Good Shepherd Clinic’s continued efforts to offer free medical care in Dawson County. Volunteers with the free clinic will be at The Chimneys at Big Canoe from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the 7th annual Grits and Granola brunch, where Talk of the Town is catering a meal of grits, grano la and much more. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased by emailing Nancy McNeill at rrmc- neill40@cs.com or by calling her at (706) 216-4673. All proceeds of the event will benefit the Good Shepherd Clinic, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides free medical, dental, vision, hearing and prescription medications to eligible residents of Dawson County who don’t have insurance or financial means. To be eligible, patients must live, work or go to school in the county, not have any insurance and have an income of 200 percent or below the federal poverty level. For a family of two, that’s an income of about $34,000 a year. Since the clinic opened in the base ment of Grace Presbyterian Church in 2009, the clinic has seen 835 patients with 1,879 visits in 2017. Kay Parrish, manager of the clinic, recently said that the clinic will soon be able to take in walk-in patients at the building the clinic leases from Northeast Georgia Medical Center, located at 45 Medical Center Drive, behind the Burger King. One hundred percent donor and vol unteer dependent, the clinic is open four days a week and citizens receive services including women’s wellness screenings, cardiology services and mental health counseling.
