Dawson County Emergency Services
will host its annual Patriot Day Service
beginning at 8:35 a.m. Tuesday, Sept.ll.
The service will be held at Fire
Station No. 1, the DCES headquarters,
located at 393 Memory Lane in
Dawsonville.
DCES Director Danny Thompson
welcomes everyone to attend the service
and show appreciation and express grat
itude to all veterans, active duty military
and public service personnel for their
dedication, as well as to honor the mem
ory of those who died during the terror
ist attacks at the World Trade Center 17
years ago.
School system to host inaugural learning academy

have all those burning
questions answered is com
ing up.
The Dawson County
School System will be
hosting its inaugural
IDawson Learning
Academy this month for
parents and community
members to learn more
about each department of
the school system.
After introductions from
Superintendent Damon
Gibbs, each department
head will have an opportu
nity to present in front of
the audience. Questions
will be taken after all of the
presentations.
“The Learning Academy
will provide our communi
ty with an opportunity to
learn more about each of
the operational areas of the
school system,” Gibbs said.
“We are excited to kick off
this new learning opportu
nity for the residents of
Dawson County.”
The learning academy
will take place over two
Tuesdays, from 4 p.m. to 6
p.m. Sept. 11 and Sept. 18
at the Professional
Development Center at 30
Main Street.
Those interested in
attending are asked to
come to both days, though
it is not required.
On Sept. 11, participants
will hear from the finance,
human resources, facilities,
transportation, operations
and safety and nutrition
departments.
On Sept. 18, the technol
ogy, teaching and learning,
testing and SI&A, student
services and exceptional
children departments will
be presenting information
about their programs.
