Douglas E. "Doug"
Darlow
Douglas E. “Doug” Darlow,
Sr., 73, of Dawsonville, died
Sept. 23,2018.
Born in Miami, Fla., Mr.
Darlow had lived in Dawson
County since 1999 having
moved from Crabapple. Doug
retired as a sergeant with the
Dekalb County Police
Department after 27 years of
service. Following his service
with the police department he
served as a captain in the
Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office
and then was assigned to
NATO for the Kosovo
Campaign.
A U.S. Army veteran of
Vietnam, he was a devoted
husband, father and grandfa
ther.
His mother and stepfather,
Pauline and Fewis Cushon; his
father, Albert Edward Darlow,
Jr.; and his dog, Cybil, preced
ed him in death.
Survivors include his wife of
42 years, Marcia “Marsha”
Darlow of Dawsonville; chil
dren, John and Alyssa Darlow
of Dawsonville, Kandi and
Mark Weaver of Dawsonville,
Kirsten and Jake Parker of
Foganville, Doug Edward
Darlow, Jr. of Canton; grand
children, Bethany and Mark
Russell, Jonathan Darlow,
Jacob Parker, Carrick Parker,
Jack Darlow and Evelyn
Elledge, Sam Darlow,
Madeline Darlow, Abagail
Darlow; great-grandchildren,
Cora Harper Russell, Jaxson
Douglas Russell, Isabella
Brooklyn Darlow; sister and
brother-in-law, Martha and
Lowell Howard of Dahlonega;
various other relatives also sur
vive.
Funeral services will be held
at 11 a.m. Sept. 27 at Georgia
National Cemetery. Pastor
Ricky Stepp will officiate.

Lynn IMahlik
Lynn Nahlik, 62, of
Dawsonville, died Sept. 22,
2018.
Born July 27, 1956 to the
late Lyman and Bronscile
“Tommie” Bennett, she was a
lifelong resident of Dawson
County.
A 1974 honor graduate of
Dawson County High School
she also graduated from
Gainesville Junior College.
Lynn was employed as a para
legal for Polatty & Sullivan
attorneys for 44 years. Since
her teenage years she served as
the organist at Bethel United
Methodist Church and was the
organist at Lumpkin
Campground.
She loved to travel, going to
Bible Study and spending time
with her family and friends.
Most of all she loved being a
Grandma. Lynn was a member
of Bethel United Methodist
Church.
Her sister, Marla Lemley,
preceded her in death.
Survivors include her chil
dren, Brandon and Stacey
Nahlik, Kaycee and Noah
Hayes, both of Dawsonville;
grandchildren, Abel Nahlik,
Coralyn Nahlik; a number of
other relatives and a host of
friends.
Funeral services were held at
11 a.m. Sept. 25 at Bethel
United Methodist Church. Dr.
David Sanders officiated.
Interment followed in the
church cemetery.
The family received friends
from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sept.
24 at the funeral home.

Johnny Young
Johnny Young, 57, of
Dawsonville, died Sept. 22,
2018.
Born April 11, 1961 in Hall
County to the late Larry and
Patricia Young, he had lived in
Dawson County for the past 34
years.
Johnny and his wife owned
Production Solutions in
Dawsonville. He also had
ownership and was an active
partner in Victory Processing,
Victory Foods, Tojo Properties,
PJTT and Lanier Property
Investment Group in
Gainesville. He also partnered
in Pearl River Foods and Pearl
River Properties in Carthage,
Miss. He was a faithful sup
porter of local churches, the
Mississippi Children’s Hospital
and helped fund a Truett
McConnell Scholarship Fund.
He will be missed very much
by his partners and employees.
Johnny enjoyed deer hunting
and was a very devoted hus
band, father, Pops and brother.
His father-in-law, Robert
Rice, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of
34 years, Pam Young of
Dawsonville; daughters and
sons-in-law, Tara and Tim
Hamby, Kristen and Ryan Seay
of Dawsonville; grandchildren,
Karley Hamby, Karson Hamby,
Sawyer Seay, Lyla Seay; sis
ters, Kim Young of
Dawsonville, Kellie Young of
Kennesaw; mother-in-law,
Betty Rice of Dawsonville; sis
ter-in-law and brother-in-law,
Kathy and David Gee of
Dawsonville; special cousin

Funeral services will be at 2
p.m. Sept. 26 in the Bearden
Funeral Home Chapel. Rev.
Craig Jones, Todd Robson and
Phillip Jones officiated.
Interment followed in the
Pleasant Hill Full Gospel
Church Cemetery.
The family received friends
from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sept.
24 and from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

begin accepting applica
tions for assistance for the
2018 Christmas season on
Nov. 3.
Applications will be
accepted at the KARE for
Kids office at 66 Hwy. 53
West in Dawsonville.
In order to qualify for
assistance, applicants must
meet all of the following
requirements: Must live
full time in Dawson
County along with the
child or children you are
applying for assistance for
and the child or children
must live with you; if your
child or children are school
aged, they must attend
Dawson County Schools;
your child or children must
be school age or younger;
you must not receive assis
tance from any other agen
cy for this Christmas sea
son.
Applicants must bring
copies of each of the fol
lowing in order for appli
cations to be accepted: A
Georgia driver’s license or
valid state I.D.; proof of
residency (utility bill, lease
agreement, property tax
statement, tax return);
school report card (if child
or children are of school
age) or birth certificate (if
child or children are not of
school age); documenta
tion from day care or pre
school in the county;
income verification for the
last two months for all per
sons employed in the
household; and court docu
ments if you are the guard
ian of the child or children.
Applicants will need to
know the child or chil
dren’s exact clothing and
shoe sizes, specific cloth
ing needs and three specif
ic items that the child or
children would like for
Christmas (one gift under
$50 and two gifts under
$20).
Applications will be
accepted from 9 a.m. to 12
p.m. on Nov. 3, Nov. 10,
Nov. 17 and Dec. 1. They
will also be accepted from
6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 5,

Harriet Allen Burt
of Dawson County, Georgia,
died September 19, 2018
Hers is not a death to be mourned but rather a life to be
celebrated. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through
our Lord Jesus Christ!
She was born at Emory Hospital in Decatur, Georgia on June 10,
1934 to the late Dr. H. Homer Allen and Fannie Mae Henderson
Allen. She grew up in Decatur, attended Clairemont Grammar
School, was a graduate of Decatur Girls High School in the class
of 1951 and throughout the years was instrumental is planning
alumni gatherings for her class. After attending the University of
Kentucky, she graduated from the University of Georgia with a
B.S. Degree in Home Economics, where she served as President of
Kappa Delta Sorority. Harriet was a teacher of Home Economics at
Decatur High School and a Kindergarten Director and teacher for
25 years in various churches in DeKalb County. She was ordained
as a Deacon at Clairmont Presbyterian Church in Decatur, was a
leader in Bible Study Fellowship in Norcross, a founding member
of Christ Church in the Tucker-Stone Mountain area, and since
moving to Dawson County has been a supporting member of The
Church of the Apostles, Dawsonville. She was active in various
organizations over the years, serving in many leadership roles. She
was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother
and maintained many lifelong friendships. She enjoyed oil paint
ing, reading, and collecting antiques, and always loved to travel -
visiting all seven continents during her traveling years!
Harriet is survived by her husband of 63 years, William S. “Bill”
Burt of Dawson County; her three children Barry (Sharon) Burt
of Brookhaven, Barbara (Phil) Johnson of Dawsonville, and Andy
(Susan) Burt of Cumming; five grandchildren Jennifer, Kristina
and Andrew (Kimberley) Burt all of Atlanta, Tony (Beverly)
Johnson of Cumming, and Phil (Laurie) Johnson of Roswell; two
great-grandchildren Jonah and Eleanor Johnson; sister-in-law
Nancy Allen of Decatur; niece Betty (Rick) Hopkins of Lilburn
and nephew Buddy Allen of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Har
riet’s brother, Homer Allen of Decatur, preceded her in death.
Harriets life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service to be held at
The Church of the Apostles, Dawsonville, on Sunday, September
30th at 2:00 PM with Rev. J.P. Morris officiating. The family will
receive guests following the service in the fellowship hall of the
church. The church is located at 32 Grant Road West, Dawson
ville, Georgia 30534. She is to be cremated with internment in
the Decatur Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers,
memorial gifts be made to The Church of the Apostles, 32 Grant
Road West, Dawsonville, GA 30534; or to Young Life-Dawson
County, P.O. Box 2007, Dawsonville, GA 30534. Care and trust
