Chamber hires Graefen as director of marketing, events

The Dawson County Chamber of
Commerce has hired Anna Graefen as its
new director of marketing and events.
According to a press release by the
chamber, Graefen has been a longtime
member of and ambassador for the cham
ber, so she knows the Dawson County
Chamber of Commerce well. She began
her new position on Nov. 17,2022.
Graefen has lived in North Georgia for
over 10 years, is a licensed realtor
and has worked with some of the
top teams in Dawson County since
2012.
“Having grown up in a military
family she understands the impor
tance of what it means to be a part
of a community,” the release said.
Graefen has been responsible for
overseeing and handling contract
management, day to day office operations
and coordinating marketing and event
activities as well as community relations.
According to the release, she has
been told that she has a “positive
energy that is contagious”.
“She is a passionate team mem
ber with a proven talent for her
organizational skills and maintain
ing customer relations,” the release
said.
Graefen has been an ambassador
with the Dawson County Chamber
of Commerce, and she served as the
ambassador chair in 2018. She is a gradu
ate of the Dawson County Leadership pro
gram class of 2020. She is also a member
of the American Association of Notaries
and the 400 North Association of Realtors.
She lives with her son, Reznor, and they
attend Browns Bridge Church and enjoy
hiking in North Georgia.
“We are so excited to have Anna join the
chamber team,” Dawson County Chamber
of Commerce President and CEO Mandy
Power said in the release. “Anna’s experi
ence and involvement in the community
are exactly what we were looking for with
this new position.”

City recognizes employees, Dawsonville Hardware’s 75 years

Recently, the City of
Dawsonville recognized
Dawsonville Hardware for
its 75 years in the commu
nity, as well as several city
employees with service
awards for their hard work.
During the city’s Oct. 17
regular meeting, Mayor
Mike Eason read a procla
mation celebrating the 75th
anniversary of Dawsonville
Hardware and showing
appreciation for owner
Dwight Gilleland’s com
mitment to the downtown
community through his
business.
“I am very appreciative
of this; I’m appreciative of
all the people of
Dawsonville specifically
but Dawson County in gen
eral,” Gilleland said to the
mayor and council follow
ing the proclamation’s
reading. “It’s been an honor
to be a part of this commu
nity for all these years and
I’m looking forward to the
next several years.”
The mayor and council
members also recognized
several city employees for
their work and dedication
to the city.
The council recognized
Treatment Plant Operator
Kyle Richardson for his
two years of service to the
city.
“Kyle is a jack of all
trades and runs a lot of our
work orders,” City
Manager Bob Bolz said.
They also recognized
Roads Equipment
Operator Jon Davis and
Building Inspector/Code
Enforcement Officer Clay
Moss, both of whom have
served the city for four
years. In addition to recog
nizing Moss for his four
years with the city, they
also recognized him for
recently completing his
Code Enforcement Level 1
certification.
Finally, they recognized
Custodian Annette Watson
as both the city’s
September employee of
the month and the employ
ee of the third quarter.
All of the employees
recognized at the meeting
were presented with
awards signifying their
accomplishments.

Election season isn’t quite over
for voters in Dawson County.
Republican Herschel Walker and
incumbent Democrat Raphael
Warnock will compete against
each other again during a Dec. 6
runoff election for U.S. Senate.
Neither candidate won more
than 50 percent of the vote, trig
gering the need for a runoff elec
tion under state law.

incumbent): 49.44%
• Herschel Junior Walker
(R): 48.49%
Dawson County results
• Herschel Junior Walker
(R): 80.64%
• Raphael Warnock (D,
incumbent): 16.42%
Results show over 3.9 million
Georgians voted in the senatori
al race. Warnock garnered
almost one percentage point
more than Walker statewide,
but in Dawson County, people
overwhelmingly voted for the
Republican candidate over the
Democratic incumbent.
Walker received a greater
amount of Election Day votes
at more than 794,000, while
Warnock got more absentee
and advance votes at above
166,000 and 1.2 million respec
tively.
