On Saturday June 10,
the Dawson County
Woman’s Club will hold
its third annual Pollinator
Garden Tour, allowing
community members of all
ages the chance to learn
about pollinator gardens
and how to attract pollina
tors to their own yards by
planting the right types of
plants.
According to informa
tion provided by the
Dawson County Woman’s
Club, the tour will run
from 10 a.m. to noon on
June 10 and will allow
attendees the chance to
visit several different polli
nator gardens that are
planted throughout down
town Dawsonville as well
as several larger gardens at
homes in Dawson County.
“Small displays and
larger home gardens con
tain amazing collections of
native perennials visited
by honey bees, native
bees, butterflies, hum
mingbirds and other polli
nators,” the event flyer
said. “Each garden has
information on the best
plants to grow, tips for
attracting honey bees and
butterflies and free flowers
and seeds.”
Several small displays
or “Pollinator Spots” are
planted throughout down
town Dawsonville, includ
ing Main Street Park, the
Dawson County Farmers
Market, the Fancy Flea,
Dawsonville City Hall, the
Bowen Center for the Arts
and the Dawson County
Fibrary. The larger home
gardens are located at the
houses of three of the
woman’s club members’
houses in Dawson County.
“Visitors will see a wide
range of native species in
fruit and flower, including
Mountain Mint, Anise
Hyssop, Agastache, Purple
Cone flowers, Milkweed,
Bee Balm, Black-eyed
Susan, Touch-me-not, Hot
Fips Salvia and some
unusual plants like Fairy
Candle, Foam Flower,
Crosominia, Big Blue Sea
Holly, Ithuriel’s Spear,
Clasping Venus’ Booking
Glass and Naked Fadies,”
the flyer said.
In addition to teaching
attendees about what types
of plants to put in their
yards to attract pollinators,
the event will also teach
them about which pollina
tors are specific to the area
and give guests the chance
to spend time at the gar
dens and observe these
insects and other pollina
tors in action.
“The DCWC mission is
to inspire and encourage
our community to join the
grassroots effort to create
productive ecosystems
one plant at a time,” the
flyer said. “By setting
aside part of our proper
ties for native plants,
whether it’s a few feet or
a few acres, we will be
saving our pollinators that
are so incredibly vital but
threatened by pesticides
and lack of health and
diverse ecosystems.”
The event is free, and
children are welcome to
attend to enjoy the flowers
and get free stickers and
tattoos.

By Erica Jones

The Georgia
Department of Driver
Services (DDS) has
recently launched an
option for Georgians to
add a valid Georgia driv
er’s license and ID to
their Apple Wallet, for
use at select
Transportation Security
Administration (TSA)
checkpoints.
According to a press
release by the Georgia
DDS, adding an ID to an
Apple Wallet will allow
residents to securely pres
ent their digital driver’s
license and ID using their
iPhone or Apple Watch at
select TSA checkpoints,
including those at the
Hartsfield-Jackson
Atlanta International
Airport.
“As the No. 1 state for
business, Georgia recog
nizes the value of finding
new and innovative ways
to remain at the forefront
of emerging trends,”
Governor Brian Kemp
said in the release. “I
want to thank our great
team at DDS for working
with their partners in the
private sector, as well as
the TSA, to make this
exciting new service pos
sible. I look forward to
this option being widely
available for hardworking
Georgians and visitors
alike.”
The digital ID option
will only be valid at par
ticipating TSA locations,
the release added, and not
for traffic stops or other
uses. Georgians will still
be asked for their physi
cal driver’s license if
pulled over by law
enforcement.
“DPS is excited that the
Department of Driver’s
Services has adopted a
digital driver’s license for
travel by air, but a physi
cal license must be avail
able for travel by road-
way,” Colonel
Christopher Wright said
in the release. “The
Official Code of Georgia,
40-5-29 dictates ‘a. Every
licensee shall have his or
her driver’s license in his
or her immediate posses
sion at all times when
operating a motor vehi
cle.’ and ‘b. 1. When
records of the department
indicate that a license has
been issued in an elec
tronic format, a law
enforcement officer may
demand such display be
made by physical for
mat.”
Georgia is the largest
state to provide their resi
dents to present their
driver’s license or ID
without needing to take
out their physical card,
the release said.
Adding a Georgia digi
tal driver’s license and ID
to your Apple Wallet
In order to add a digital
ID to an Apple Wallet, an
individual must have a
valid and easily readable
Georgia driver’s license
or ID card and an iPhone
8 or later or Apple Watch
4 or later with the latest
version of iOS or
watchOS.
