Fayette Health Department Offers Flu,
Covid Vaccines, Free Covid Home Tests
Fayette County Health De
partment offers flu shots and
the updated COVTD-19 vac
cine to provide protection
against two of the three respi
ratory illnesses already cir
culating this season, according
to the Georgia Department of
Public Health.
Visit
district4health.org/make-an-
appointment to schedule your
visit and learn more about
which COVID-19 vaccine
brand the health department
currently offers for your age
group. If you wish, you can
schedule both vaccines for the
same visit. You also may call
(800) 847-4262 to make an
appointment. The health de
partment is located at 140 W.
Stonewall Avenue, Suite 107,
in Fayetteville.
Recommended by the
CDC for individuals six
months of age and older,
COVID and influenza vaccines
are covered by many insur
ance plans at no cost to the pa
tient. For adults without
health insurance coverage, a
federal program will cover the
cost of the COVID vaccine and
administration fee.
There is a $21.93 admin
istration fee for the influenza
vaccine for those who do not
have insurance or are under
insured. Vaccines For Chil-
dren-funded COVID and
influenza vaccines are avail
able for those six months to 18
years old without health insur
ance coverage. Unless covered
by Medicaid, there is a $21.93
administration fee for those
who receive the VFC-funded
vaccine.
District 4 health officials
also encourage eligible older
adults and pregnant women to
talk with their primary doctor
about getting the new FDA-
approved RSV vaccine, which
is available at select doctors’
offices and local pharmacies.
It is important to get your
vaccines as soon as possible to
protect yourself and loved
ones and to help prevent the
spread of the viruses, espe
cially before the holidays, ac
cording to DPH officials.
Flu and COVID vaccines
cannot completely prevent
someone from getting either
vims. However, CDC data
show vaccines are the key -
especially for older adults and
individuals with chronic
health conditions - in reducing
the risk of severe illness, long
term effects, hospitalization,
and death.
Vaccination is particularly
important for those at high
risk of complications if they
get sick, including adults 65
and older, children younger
than five years, pregnant
women, people with weak
ened immune systems, and
people with chronic health
conditions such as asthma,
diabetes, and heart disease.
Individuals can pick up a
free COVID-19 rapid self-test
in the front lobby of the health
department as supplies re
main available.
Fayette Health Depart
ment also offers covid PCR
testing and rapid testing on
Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fri
days each week from 9 a.m. to
4 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m.
for lunch). For an appoint
ment, visit
https://covid19.dph.ga.g0v/e
n-US.
In addition, each U.S.
household may place a new
order at
special.usps.com/testkits for
four free covid rapid self-tests
delivered directly to your
home. You may also call (800)
232-0233 or TTY (888) 720-
7489.
Redwine Road Closure Extended
The road closure scheduled for the inter
section of Redwine Road and Bernhard
Road has been extended to Nov. 21, accord
ing to county officials. Unsuitable materials
encountered on the project and the rain are
reportedly the reason for the extension.
The intersection was scheduled to be
open by the end of the day on Nov. 21.
Phase Two schedule is unaffected and
will begin Nov. 27 and will last up to 14
days. During this phase, through traffic will
not be permitted on South Peachtree Park
way.
The intersection should be open to traf
fic without detours during the Thanksgiving
holiday week, Nov. 22-24, according to of
ficials.
