News Service) BOSTON — Leaving God out of education leads to “the great est detriment of man and to the deterioration or even destruc tion of his dignity,” Archbishop Amleto Giovanni Cicognani, Apostolic Delegate to the United States, has warned. The combination “God and Man” is inseparable and must be so “in the school as else where,” the Archbishop said in an address at Boston College here. Ar chbishop Cicognani, in Bos ton for ceremonies marking the sesquicentennial of the archdio cese, received an honorary doc torate of laws from the univer sity. The degree was awarded him in honor of his own silver jubilee as a bishop and as Apostolic Delegate to this coun try. While it is true, he said in his address that man is “the pro duct of the family, the country and the school,” it must always be remembered that prior to this “man is. a'product of God.” “The human soul comes from God and is directed to God,” he said. “Neither the individual, nor the family, nor the school nor country must forget this.” The Archbishop asserted that the “true purpose of life is to realize more and more on the physical-ethical level” man’s re semblance to God. “Man must therefore add to his technologi cal and literary acquisitions the knowledge of those things which give a norm to his life in the family, in the professions and as an individual,” he said. Making the announcement was Very Rev. Leo J. Burns, S.J., Provincial of the Wisconsin Province, Society of Jesus. The new building, replacing an older novitiate near Oshkosh, Wis., will provide facilities for 200 seminarians and faculty. Wisconsin Provine Fathers are now appealing to relatives and friends of the Society for funds to help defray construction costs.—(NC Photos). PRIEST PART OF FIERCE AFRICAN TRIBE ' Lone white man to be initiated as a blood-brother into the fiercely independent, proud, and intelligent Masai Tribe of Tanganyika, Africa, is Father Eugene Hillman, missionary of the Holy Ghost Fathers, who is pictured with some Masai youngsters, outside of his tent. Masai people are nomadic, driving their herds of goats, sheep and cattle to fresh grazing land in the midst of. the best wild-game country in Africa. Father Hillman follows them by jeep. After six years in his apostolate, Father Hillman has returned briefly to New York for a well-earned vacation. —(NC Photos).
