Other Stores Throughout The State And Nation j LATE NEWS BRIEFS Pontiff's Move To Summer Residence Delayed By Crisis VATICAN CITY — Vatican sources announce that His Holi ness Pope Pius XII’s departure for Castelgandolfo, previously set for July 19, has been post poned because of recent devel opments in the Middle East crisis. Mid-July is the normal time for the Pope’s move from Vat ican City to his summer resi dence in the Alban hills, 15 miles south of Rome. Vatican sources said, however, that the move has been postponed so the Pontiff can remain in close con tact with events as long as there is a crisis. There was nothing definitely known on the length of the postponement. Support Program Of P. O. A. U. PORTLAND, Ore., (NC) — Oregon Methodists have gone on record as endorsing the program in this state of Protestants and Other Americans United for Separation of Church and State (POAU). At a statewide conference at which they also favored admis sion of Red China to the United Nations, the Methodists support ed POAU’s program which in cludes opposition to legislation permitting children in nonpub lic schools to borrow tax- purchased textbooks for their studies. There was some opposition to the Red China resolution. A minority report at the confer ence urged further study of the issue. A leading opponent of the resolution, Max McMillen of Grants Pass, said that “Red China is the antithesis of the Christian way of life.” CARDINAL UNDERGOES SURGERY GRAZ, Austria, (NC) — His Eminence Alojzije Cardinal Stepinac, Archbishop of Zagreb, has undergone emergency surg ery to remove a bloodclot in his right leg that was threatening his life, according to reports reaching here. CHANGES DATE OF BROADCAST VATICAN CITY, (Radio, NC) —The date of the second special broadcast by His Holiness Pope Pius XII to cloistered nuns throughout the world has been changed from July 20 to July 26. One broadcast took place, on July 19 with August 2, sched uled for the third. INSTALLATION DATE SET FOR BISHOP RUSSELL RICHMOND, Va„ (NC) — Bishop John J. Russell will be installed as Bishop of Rich mond in Sacred Heart cathe dral here on September 30, it has been announced by Bishop Joseph H. Hodges, administrat or of the diocese. Archbishop Francis P. Keough of Baltimore will be in stalling prelate. Bishop Russell who has been Bishop of Charles ton, S. C., since 1950, will suc ceed the late Bishop Peter L. Ireton in the Richmond diocese. NAME RECTOR BALTIMORE, (NC) — Msgr. George D. Mulcahy, -a former chancellor of the Harrisburg, Pa., diocese, has been named rector of Mt. St. Mary’s Semi nary, Emmitsburg. Appointment of Msgr. Mul cahy, now pastor of St. Ed ward's church, Shamokin, Pa., was announced jointly here by Archbishop Francis P. Keough of Baltimore and Bishop George L. Leech of Harrisburg. Msgr. Mulcahy, who assumes his duties immediately, was or dained in 1934. He became a do mestic prelate in 1945. He is a native of Sunbury,. Pa. Gives Birth Under Hypnosis YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, (NC) -—St. Elizabeth Hospital chalk ed up an area “first” when a son was born to Mrs. Richard Green of Wickliffe, while she was under hypnosis. Sister M. Baptista, hospital administrator, of the Sisters of the’ Holy Humility of Mary, termed it “another milestone in local medical history.” The six- pound 14%-ounee baby was born by caesarean section. Mrs. Green previously had eight mis carriages. A man who is engaged in hea vy conversation should be care ful not to drop a remark.
