Vol. 40 MONROE, GEORGIA, SATURDAY, JUNE 27, 1959 No. 2 BELMONT ABBEY SUPPLEMENT Featuring BELMONT ABBEY COLLEGE Belmont Abbey College is a four year degree granting College conducted by the Benedictine Fathers. This college for men is located in Belmont, N. C. The Church teaches that religion is not only important in education, but that it is absolutely necessary. In the Catholic College, religion permeates the whole curriculum. If the at mosphere is of the world, worldly, faith and morals are apt to be endangered. The atmosphere that is desired in education is one that is thoroughly Catholic, and the atmosphere that is thoroughly Catholic is found only in the Catholic College. The fruit and prayers and labors of the Benedictines are found not only in Belmont, but throughout the South, notably in the State of Georgia and in the Diocese of Richmond, where splendid schools are conducted by Benedictine Fathers from Belmont. Former students of Belmont Abbey College and Bel mont Abbey Seminary, clergy and laity, are found in all parts of the country reflecting credit upon those institutions of learn ing in which they were educated. Belmont Abbey College is truly a fountain spring of re ligion and education for this area. And Sacred Heart Junior College Sacred Heart Junior College, conducted by the Sisters of Mercy in Belmont, offers two years of standard college work leading to an Associate in Arts Degree or an Associate in Science or an Associate in Ap plied Science degree. The graduate may then matriculate in a four year college as a Junior or she may enter im mediately upon a career. At Sacred Heart the student has great opportunities for tak ing part in student activities and enjoys a close relationship with teachers and fellow Stu dents. Sacred Heart Academy, also conducted by the Sisters of Mercy is a standard four-year high school located in Belmont, but it functions as a distinct unit separate from the Junior College.
