LIFE OF UNION WITH
MARY, by Emil Neubert, S. M.
and Sylvester P. Jurgens, S. M.,
Bruce, $4.95 .
How devotion to the Blessed
Virgin can be put into every day
practice is the subject of this
new book, which outlines a phi

relatives of Mary to God and to
man.
Union with Mary — a constant
effort to divert the natural cur

from habitual procedure in or
der to perform all actions under
the guidance of the Blessed
Mother — has been recommend

ABBOTS LANGLEY, Eng
land, (NC) -— The 800th anni
versary of the death of Pope
Adrian IV was observed by
Catholics here in his birthplace
by special prayers for His Holi
ness Pope John XXIII.
The clergy and people of Ab
bots Langley offered their
Masses and Communions (Sept.
6) for the intentions of the suc
cessor to the only Englishman to
union in daily actions but also
union in thought, in feelings,
and in will. He draws on the
biographies of saints, their
writings and testimonies of
many religious and lay people
who have experienced intimate
union with Jesus and Mary.
Father Neubert has spent a
lifetime in spiritual direction —
a half-century divided almost
equally between novice master
ship and service as superior of
an international seminary. Fa
ther Juergens, the translator, is
a former provincial and superior
general of the Society of Mary
(Marianists).
become Pope.
Adrian IV, whose name was
Nicholas Breakspear, was born
in this Hertfordshire town in
about 1100. He was elected
Pope in December, 1154, and
died on September 1, 1159.
Members of the Catholic par
ish here also sent Pope John a
specially bound hand-printed
volume commemorating Pope
Adrian’s eighth centenary.
