WHITE ROSE FOR CONVERT
"Receive this white robe and carry it unstained to the judgment
seat of our Lord Jesus Christ so that you may have everlasting
life.” The restored Ordo of Holy Week permits the Baptism
of converts during the Holy Saturday Easter Vigil ceremonies.
The white robe being received by the young lady symbolizes a
pure garment for the convert’s new life.
LET US
GIVE THANKS
By Rev. Gervase
Brinkman, O.F.M.)
As subject matter for medita
tion on Easter the writer feels
that it would be gilding the lily
to try to add to or improve on
the very words of the liturgy of
the season. Below you will find
a number of quotations from
the liturgy. They are not in
chronological order hut arrang
ed as the writer believes they
will most, strongly bring out the
great joy of the feast of the
resurrection of Our Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ.
“This is the day which the
Lord has made. Let us rejoice
and be glad in it. Give praise
to the Lord, for He is good. His
mercy endureth forever. Christ
our Pasch, is sacrificed.”
“Let us give thanks to the
Lord. It is fitting and just, right
and helpful to our salvation for
us always to praise Thee, O
Lord, but more so at this time
when Christ our Pasch was
sacrificed.”
“For He is the true Lamb
Who has taken away the sins
of the world. By dying. He has
destroyed our death. By rising
aeain, He has restored us to
life.”
“Therefore, with the angels
and archangels, with all the
hosts of the heavenly army, we
sing the hymn of Thy glory,
evermore saying: ‘Holy, holy,
holy. Lord God of hosts; heaven
and earth are filled with Thy
glory. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is He who comes in the
name of the Lord. Hosanna in
the highest.’ ”
“This is the day which,
throughout the world, restores
to grace and unites in sanctity
those who believe in Christ and
are separated from the vices of
the world and the darkness of
sinners.”
“This is the day on which,
destroying the chains of death,
Christ arose victorious from the
grave. It would have profited
us nothing to he born, unless
redemption had also been be
stowed upon us.”
‘“O wonderful love of God
Who, to redeem the slaves of
sin, delivered up His dearly
beloved Son. O sin of Adam,
which merited to have so great
a Redeemer. O truly blessed
day, which saw this Redeemer
rise from the dead—conqueror
of sin and death.”
Therefore this day puts to
flight all wickedness, cleanses
sin, restores innocence to the
fallen, and gladness to the sor
rowful. It drives away hatreds,
it brings peace, and fills the
world with joy.”
“This is the day on which we
pray: ‘O Cod, Who on this day,
through Thy only-begotten. Son
Jesus Christ, didst overcome
death and open unto us the gate
of everlasting life, we pray
Thee, breathe good desires into
our hearts and let them result
in good actions through Thy
gracious help.’ ”
“May the peace which the
Risen Saviour gives come to
your hearts today and remain
forever.”

Birth Control
Action Protested
NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE, Eng
land, (NC) — Two Catholic
members of the city council here
called for a full inquiry into re
ports that birth control agents
have official support for a door-
to-door campaign in an indus
trial suburb.
Members of the Family plan
ning Association were said to
have approval of the local health
officer for their program.
Mrs. I. McCambridge, council
man, expressed indignation over
the campaign. She and a con
frere, Alderman Percy Edwards,
said that their fellow Catholics
object to such procedures, and
that the city council should
steer clear of “family planning.”
