Linda, a graduate of St.
Vincent’s Acadefny, is a
member of the Mast and Foil,
Dorian and Science Clubs,
Badminton Junior Varsity
team, and co-chairman of the
Inter- Collegiate Relations
Board.
Linda is working for hon
ors in psychology and in
sophomore year she served
as resident class treasurer
and presently she is resident
representative to the SSGA.

the government’s educational
exchange program. John
W. Gardner, president of the
Carnegie Corporation of New
York, was named chairman of
the commission.
SPELLING BEE WINNERS—These are three of the four winners in the 15th
annual Old Fashioned Spelling Bee sponsored by the City Recreation Department
at Sunset Recreation Center. From left, are Mamie Green, second place winner in
the high school division; Hubert Sapp, first place in the high school division; and
Lourdes Neely, first place in the elementary division. All three are students of
Immaculate Conception School in Augusta. Mamie is a Freshman, Hubert is a
Junior, and Lourdes is in the seventh grade.
St. James Parents Hear Fr. Vickers
SAVANNAH — Rev. Wil
liam Vickers of Hunter Air
Force Base spoke to the
members of the St. James
Home and School Association
at their March meeting. The
subject of Father Vickers’
speech was “A Code for Par
ents.”
In his talk. Father Vickers
emphasized the help that
children need which must
come primarily from parents.
Parents should give their
children a constant and sin
cere love and be a good ex
ample to their children. He
stressed the fact that parents
must instill in their children
an understanding of right and
wrong.
Mr. Jack Ahern, president,
presided at the business
meeting. He read a message
from Mother Mary Elizabeth.
In her message Mother stated
that she had received corre
spondence from Miss Geral
dine LeMay of the Savannah
Public Library to the effect
that the children of St. James
School had procured 11,244
books from the Bookmobile
in a period of a 16 months.
A nominating committee to
select officers for the year
1962-63 will be composed of
Mrs. William Gaudry, Mrs.
Considine and Mrs. Michael
Brennan.
The members of the Asso
ciation voted to pay the
membership fee for the film
strip of the Month Club. Un
der this plan the school will
receive two film slides per
month for use in visual edu
cation. They voted to sponsor
the annual May Festival for
the children. The Festival
will be held May 2 from 3 to
5:30 p. m. The association
will also sponsor an athletic
banquet for the St. James
teams and buy a cardex file
to serve as a cross reference
index for the school library.
Bishop Bell Ordinary Of Sacramento
WASHINGTON (NC)—His
Holiness Pope John XXIII
has named the Most Rev. Al-
den J. Bell to be the Bishop
of Sacramento. Bishop Bell
has been Titular Bishop of
Rhodopolis and Auxiliary to
James Francis Cardinal Mc
Intyre, Archbishop of Los
Angeles.
The appointment was an
nounced here April 4 by
Archbishop Egidio Vagnozzi,
Apostolic Delegate in the
United States.
