Thomas J. McDonough, D. D. J. C. D., Bishop of Savannah at ceremonies set for May 27th. A workman is pictured putting finishing touches on the building which is located on State Highway 19, going south from Camilla. For four years, the Franciscan Fathers from Thomasville have been saying Mass in a private home. First Holy Communion At Americus Monica Toms, Ruth Ratliff, Mary Rose Williams, Janice Scott, Stephen Hachey, Wesley Wellons, and Thomas Smith made their First Holy Com munion at St. Mary's Church, Americus, at the 8 o'clock Mass on Sunday, May 13. The girls wore the traditional white dresses and veils and the boys were dressed in white shirts and blue trousers with match ing neckties. Following the Mass, the First Communicants were guests of honor at a breakfast at which all the children of the parish were present. White linen table- clothes covered the tables which were decorated with white and pink roses. Mesdames John White, Rob ert Garner, and John Smith pre pared and served the breakfast. Floral arrangements were handled by Mrs. Edward Sene- cal. Forty children were present. Mrs. Ena Perry, President, presided and Father Paul Burkort, S. M. opened the meeting with an in vocation to the Holy Spirit. Sister Loretta Joseph, CSJ, Principal, thanked members of the H & S Association for the proceeds derived from a dinner given for the benefit of the Sisters. Immediately following the business meeting, the election was held and the following offi cers installed: President, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Butler. Vice President, Mrs. L. L. Ross. Recording Secretary, Mrs. J. M. Henderson. Cathedral Home & School SAVANNAH - The Cathedral Home and School Association at its monthly meeting installed the following new officers: Mrs. Donald McLendon, President, Mrs. Joseph Sheehan, Vice- President; Mrs. F. R. Elmore, Secretary; and Mrs. Edward Pigman, Treasurer. Rt. Rev. Msgr. T. James McNamara was high in his praise of the work done by the retiring president, Mrs. George Paul, and pre sented her with a gift on be half of the Association. Sister Martina Joseph’s eighth grade graduates pre sented a delightful musical pro gram, under the direction of Mrs. Joseph Schreck. Follow ing the program, trophies were presented to John Spivey and Chris Remion, who had been selected as the outstanding pa trol boys. The citizenship tro phy was awarded to Richard Brown. Miss Linda Lee of Troup 15 who will represent the Cathe dral at the Senior Girl Scout Round Up to be held in Ver mont in July was a guest at the meeting and presented with a check towards her expenses. The Golden Age Club, spon sored by the Cathedral, pre sented a preview of the hats, umbrellas and other articles made by its members. The attendance award for the year was won by Sister M. He express ed deep appreciation and thanks to the Sisters, lay teachers, and members of the H&.S Association for their efforts and achievements and acknow ledged the spendid support and cooperation extended him dur ing his first year as Pastor of St. Francis Xavier Church. St Vincent’s Alumnae Ass’n SAVANNAH-TheSt. Vincent's Alumnae Association installed the following officers at its an nual meeting: President, Mrs. C. L. The annual reports were given by the committee chair men and Miss Regina Lytgen, Delegate to the Savannah D. C.C.W. Convention recently held in Augusta, gave a most complete summary of the con vention activities. The newly elected officers will be installed at the annual party given for the graduates. This affair will be held on May 28th in the courtyard of the Academy with Mrs. Petkr R. Schreck General Chairman, assisted by Mrs. C. K. McKenzie, Jr. Decorations and Miss Regina Lytgen, Refresh ments. A special table will be reserved for the Class of '12 which will be observing its 50th anniversary and the Class of '37 observing its 25th an niversary. Servers will be the members of the class of '61. Rome College Established ROME, (Radio, NC) - The Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity, religious society founded in the U. S. in 1929, have opened a college here. Amleto Cardinal Cicognani, Papal Secretary of State, ofr ficiated at the opening (May 14). He was received by Father Gerard Fredericks, M.S.SS.T., Guardian General, and Father Thomas O’Keeffe, M.S.SS.T., Assistant General. Established in the Mobile dio cese, the congregation now has 141 priests and is represented in 17 archdioceses and dioceses of the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
