The history of St. Joseph’s parish in Macon brings us back to a period when it embraced with in its limits the territory as far away as Atlanta and up the state road to Tennessee. The first pastor of this large parish was Rev. James Gra ham, who came to Macon in 1841, organized his congregation of about fifty members, bought the old Presbyterian Church Building on Fourth Street, and started his little parish on the road to prosperity. After a year with his little flock, he died, being then only thirty two years of age. Rev. Thomas Murphy, Rev. Patrick Joseph Cof fey, Rev. James O’Connell, Rev. John P. Kirby, Rev. C. J. Crogan and Rev. Thomas F. Shannahan served after Father Graham, which brings us up (Continued on page 11.)
