The stage is set for Catholicism's twenty-eighth International Eucharistic Congress in Chicago,
June 20 to 24. The great new stadium in Grant Park, Soldiers' Field, is in readiness' to serve the
massed thousands of pilgrims who will gather there for a part of the ceremonies. And almost a new
town has been Treated at Mundelein, 111., where the greater part of the observances of the Congress
will take place. The-illustrations show Cardinal Mundelein, left, the official host to the visiting mul
titudes; fount Raymond d’Yanville, who although a layman, is general secretary of the international
congress, who has arrived to assume his duties and Cardinal Bonzano of Rome, the Papal Delegate,
who will bring the Pope's blessing. The view of the Stadium shows it in its completed impressiveness.

Cardinal O’Connell of Boston
celebrated on May 19, the silver
jubilee of his elevation to the
episcopacy. The following ob
servations containing his philos
ophy of life were taken from an
article contributed by His Emi
nence to The Boston Pilot.
A Bishop is the shepherd of even
the black sheep.
Flattery is taken with salt by the
wise, with pepper by the foolish.
Why impatience with the sinner?
God waits for him.
Calumnies hurt, but they kill the
calumniator.
Men who eat too much, drink too
much and sleep too much, arc al
ways wondering why others succeed.
Quick temper is human—prolong
ed hate is Satanic.
Which is worse, a kind sinner or a
smug saint?
If you want to he big, find some
good in your enemy.
A learned man frankly says he
does not know. An ignorant man is
ashamed to do so.
If there were only three men in
the world, one of them would be the
leader.
Many can command—to be obeyed
is another story.
Gentleness is the best indication
of strength.
In twenty-five years 1 have kept
every single engagement to the min
ute.
With peace at home, work outside
is easy.
I have worked hard for sixty years.
It never hurt me.
The chronic grumbler is incurable.
It is a fatal disease which lives
long.
The stingy parishoner soon goes
bankrupt.
A pompous preacher is a peacock
in the pulpit.
Every real saint is human., His
biographer may make him a prig or
a cad.
A bad artist will make a saint a
freak.
A happy priest is he who never
seeks an honor and never shirks a
duty.
A jewelled cross may be a sign of
vanity.
A tirm superior gets things done
quickly. A gentle one gets them
done well.
Rather he considered weak than
cruel. One only hurts you, the oth
er hurts others.
The best superior I have ever had
never gave an order, but expressed
a wish.
Do the good that you can do, then
forget it. Others will remember it
for you.
I never pass a circus without want
ing to crawl under the tent.
There is a whole world of differ
ence between resting and rusting.
The truest mark of a saintly
priest is his charity toward the fall
en. <
To own broad acres will not make
your grave any longer or wider.
Reverence for the old is natural
to well-bred youth. They will be
revered, too.
Many chase the rainbow—and get
wet.
Frankness is only a virtue when
you temper it with kindly judgment.
Re always frank with yourself; with
others?—that depends.
Pay your debts promptly and save
the interest for more credit.
We have only one real success in
life—final persevrance.
The best legislators make few
laws.
When you have ton died the goal
of your hopes be ready for disillu
sion.
A dutiful son makes a good father.
Cowardice often passes for pru
dence.
Tlie richest man is one who needs
little.
Some men seem strong willed
when they are only stubborn.
Watch ambition—it is a leaping
horse which may land you in a
ditch.
When your enemy rages, smile
and hear him stammer.
God keep us humble and spare us
a tumble.
