President Camp of Georgia Press
Association Welcomes C.P. A.
Hon. Pleasant Stovall, Editor of the Savannah Press
and Former U. S. Minister to Switzerland, to Greet
Catholic Press Convention in Name of Georgia Editors
President Ernest Camp of the Georgia Press Associa
tion in a letter to the editor of The Bulletin extends in
the name of the Georgia editors a cordial welcome to the
Savannah convention of the Catholic Press Association
of the United States and Canada. President Camp, who
is editor of the Walton Tribune at Monroe and one of the
most widely known and highly regarded editors in the
South, has designated Hon. Pleasant Stovall, editor of
the Savannah Press, United States Minister to Switzerland
during the Wilson administration and one of the South’s
most distinguished citizens, to represent the Georgia
Press Association at the Savannah convention, and Mr.
Stovall will deliver an address of welcome at the Friday
morning session. The cruise of the Georgia Press Asso
ciation to Boston at that time and the consequent absence
of the president from the state made it impossible for
President Camp to deliver his greetings in person. His
'letter of welcome to the C. P. A. convention follows:
In behalf of the Georgia Press Association and all the
newspapers of Georgia, I cordially and sincerely welcome
to this state the seventeenth annual convention of the
Catholic Press Association of the United States and
Canada.
Our state feels distinctly honored in being host to
this great organization of newspaper people, and especially
so in view of the fact that this is their first meeting in
the Southern States. I want to personally congratulate
you and The Bulletin upon your success in bringing this
notable meeting to Georgia, and feel sure it will bring
about contacts and understanding that wil] be mutually
pleasant and helpful in the years to come.
The creed of the Georgia editor is Service and his
motto Tolerance Men and women representing every
shade of religious belief and political thought work to
gether in single purpose and in the utmost harmony and
accord. You will pardon me for a personal allusion when
I state that the editor of the Catholic Laymen’s Bulletin
is a district vice-president of the Georgia Press Associa
tion and one of its most popular and useful members.
In selecting Savannah as its meeting place, your As
sociation comes to one of the South’s loveliest and most
hospitable cities, one rich in historic association and con
spicuous for its examples of modern progress, religious
activity and civic pride.
Circumstances rendering it impossible for me and
other officials of the Georgia Press Association, I have
taken pleasure in naming Hon. Pleasant A. Stovall, editor
of the Savannah Press and one of the South’s most dis
tinguished journalists, to represent our association offi
cially at your notable gathering.
And in sending this message of fraternal greeting
and good will, I assure you all Georgia is glad to welcome
your body of eminent journalists and takes pride in the
invaluable service which they have rendered the citizen
ship of this republic.
