Christmas Tree Program

Teachers’ Association of St. Peter’s
School with Mrs. Hortcnse Noonc as
chairman sponsored a splendid
Christmas tree program Dec. 21. The
program follows:
Processional, Rosemary Phelan and
Lucy Clark; chorus, “Merry, Merry
Christmas”; “The True Christmas
Stpirit,” Myrtle Thomas; "Christmas,”
Margaret Harris, Clare O’Donoghue,
Margie Nossar, Marian Cantwell, Lil
lian Federal, Mary C. Markwalter,
Helen Marie Ray, Joyce Marie Too-
mey. Lorraine Simms; chorus, “Ring
the Bells Again”; recitation, “If You
Are Good,” Margaret Harris; recita
tion, “My Christmas Tree,” Helen
Phelan; recitation, “Mary, Pearl,”
Lillian Federal; chorus, “Silent
Night.” The program closed with a
visit from Santa Claus.
ARCHBISHOP’S CHARITIES
Responsible For His Estate
Being’ $48,000 in Debt
Prague, Czechoslovakia.—Debts
totaling approximately $48,090
in the estate of Archbishop Cyril
Stojan of Olomouc, famed
throughout the nation for his
philanthropies, will be covered
by the Archbishop’s successor,
it has been announced. Builders
of the mission house “Stojanov”
at Velerhad and architects who
constructed monastery buildings
at St. Sostyn are among the larg
er creditors listed by the pro
bate courts.
Legends are told all over
Czechoslovakia of the benevo
lence of Archbishop Stojan, who
died eight years ago. His estate
court records show, contains as
sets of only $915, pins mortgag
ed property wiorth $19,090.
Extension Society Arranges
Southern Episcopal Burses
The December number of Exten
sion Magazine records the fact that
the late Bishop Denis J. O’Connell of
Richmond, titular Archbishop of
Mariamme, and the late Bishop Wil
liam T. Russell of Charleston before
their deaths gave one thousand dol
lars each to the Extension Sociely
for which a purse for $5,000 was to
be created in each case after death
for the education of a priest for
American misionary work. Seven
such burses already have been cre
ated; in addition to those in mem
ory of Archbishop O’Connell and
Bishop Russell there is one in mem
ory of the late Bishop Allen of
Mobile. The priests educated by the
income from these funds will be
for the diocese of Richmond, Char
leston and Mobile respectfully.
