Atlanta Council Has
Social Sessions
MIAMI COUNCIL CLASS
GIVEN MAJOR DEGREE

ATLANTA, Ga. — Only three less
than 150 people attended the social
supper of Atlanta Council, K. of C.,
at the Columbian Club February 24.
A spaghetti supper was served Feb
ruary 10, with 87 members present.
James A. Harvey, lecturer and chair
man of the house committee, was a
moving spirit in these entertain
ments.
Mrs. Mae McAlpin is chairman of
the committee arranging a dinner-
dance for St. Patrick’s Day.
The council is planning an initia
tion for April 27. Mr. Leach is the
chairman of the membership com
mittee and J. Charles Govan of the
lapsation committee.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The bazaar con
ducted here February 19-22 by Pat
rick Walsh Council Knights of Co
lumbus, was a splendid success; it
was arranged for the benefit of the
fund to pay for the renovation of the
beautiful home of the council. John
T? Buckley was general chairman
and Mrs. C. J. Vaughan, president
of the Catholic Women’s Club, was
chairman of the women’s commit
tee. The women did magnificent
work in connection with the bazaar,
the men giving them the bulk of
the credit for its success. Commit
tee chairmen included Mrs. W. W.
Battey, Miss Bemardine Hester, Mrs.
John T. Buckley, Mrs. John E. Mar
riott, Mrs. J. A. Cashin. Mrs. E. J.
O’Connor, Mrs. Frank Claffey,. Mrs.
Louis O’Connell, Mrs. Frank White
and Grand Knight J. E. Marriott.
The Marjos also assisted actively.
Knights at Columbia
Initiate Big Class

COLUMBIA, S. C.—Bishop England
Council, Knights of Columbus, of
which John H. Park is grand knight,
initiated a large class here February
23, the degree team of the Charlotte,
N. C. Council exemplifying the de
gree.
The day’s program began at seven
o’clock, when the Council members
and candidates receiyed Holy Com
munion. After the eleven o’clock Mass
the degree work started at St. Pe
ter’s Hall. At the conclusion of the
degree the candidates and visiting
members were guests of the local
members at a dinner at the Rose
Mary Tea Room.
Speakers at the dinner included
Capt. P. H. Rice, K.C.S.G., of Augusta,
supreme director, E. D. Buckley, state
deputy for South Carolina, Matthews
J Condon, Charleston, past district
deputy, J. J. McAlister, grand knight
of Charleston Council, J. J. Brennan,
past state deputy, grand knight of
Sumter Council, T. E. Rea of Char
lotte, Grand Knight Park and others.
Delegations were present at the de
gree from Charlotte, Charleston, Au
gusta and other places.
MIA M I. Fla. — Miami Council,
Knights of Columbus, initiated a
class of 35 candidates into the Third
Degree February 16, upon the occa
sion of the official visit of the State
Deputy, Arnold P. Mickler, of Or
lando.
The members of the council with
a number of out-of-town Knights
who are spending the winter at Mi
ami, received Holy Communion in a
body, forming a guard of honor for
the candidates who also approached
the Holy Table as a prelude to the
ceremonies of the afternoon.
The degree work was in charge of
Past State Deputy Harry P. Baya,
of Tampa, who functioned in nis
usual capable manner. He was as
sisted by a degree team from Tampa
captained by Gabriel Zendigui, who
is a master in his particular line.
Miami Council is now organizing
a class of candidates to join with
Palm Beach Council in staging a
monster joint degree in the latter
city upon the occasion of the forth
coming state convention of the
order.

Hear Boy Work Talk
Circle of Columbian Squires
Planned by Council
PENSACOLA, Fla—J. H. Van
Vleck gave an address before the
Knights of Columbus at their home
recently, on “The Boy”. This talk
was in line with the program out
lined by the Knights in sponsoring
boy organizations. Two troops of
Boy Scouts meet at the home and an
expansion in the boy program is an
ticipated at this time. The Council
is looking forward to establishing a
Circle of Columbian Squires.
Mr. Van Vleck is a man well quali
fied to speak on this subject, he hav
ing had experience in organizing boy
organizations in the east and is a
qualified boy work executive, hav
ing received many honors as a
graduate in boy life work.
Mr. Van Vleck is interested in boy
work and feels that there should be
more boy organizations in Pensacola.
Tampa Council Has
Splendid Initiation
TAMPA, Fla. — The third degree
was exemplified on a class of 62 can
didates by Tampa Council here Feb
ruary 23, the Miami team being in
charge of the degree. This is one
of the largest classes initiated at one
time in Florida in some time. Dis
trict Deputy J. E. Marcoup was cap
tain of the degree team.
The degree was considered a
splendid one, even by those who have
witnessed a greht'many in various
parts of the country. Nearly every
state was represented by those wit
nessing the degree. The Tampa
Council provided lavish entertain
ment for the candidates and visiting
members. State Deputy A. P. Mick
ler, of Orlando, addressed the mem-

AUGUSTA, Ga.—The funeral of
Large Class Given
Degrees at Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga.—The third degree
of the Knights of Columbus was
exemplified here February 9th on a
large class which included three
priests, Rev. F. M. Perry S. M.; Rev.
Edward McGee, S. M., of Atlanta,
and Rev. Harry Homick, of Colum
bus, two candidates from Mexico and
three from Columbus. Among the
Knights of Columbus officials at
tending the degree was State Deputy
N. A. Stafford, of Savannah, who was
accompanied by Messrs. McDonald
and Ebberwein of Savannah. John
J. Bradley is grand knight of Atlanta
Council, which is one of tire most
active in the Southeast.
The new members of the order
were guests of honor at an ex
perience meeting and supper the
night following the degree. The prin
cipal address was made by Rev. J.
T. Reilly, S. M., chaplain of the
council.
POPE GIVES DELEGATE
TO CHINA AUTOMOBILE
PEKING—(N. C. W. C., Fides)—His
Holiness Pope Pius XI has given an
automobile to His Excellency Arch
bishop Celso Costantini, Apostolic
Delegate at Peking. His Excellency
used it for the first time to drive
from tire Peking Cathedral following
the Jubilee Mass in honor of Pius
XI.
