THE BULLETIN OF THE CATHOLIC L AYMEN'S ASSOCIATION OF GEORGIA
Bishop Barry at Dedication of St. Mary's
BRIG. GEN. HARRISON
DEAD, ENGLAND HEARS
LONDON — News has been receiv
ed here of the death at Bordighera,
Italy of Brig. Gen. Gilbert Harwood
Harrison. C. B., C. M. G-. eldest son
of Sir Henry Harrison. General
Harrison fought in the South Afri
can and the World Wars. During
the past six years he was a member
of the Catholic Association commit
tee here. Prominent among his ac
tivities was his work in leading pil
grimages to Lourdes.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—Rt. Rev.
Patrick Barry, D. D,, Bishop of St.
Augustine, opened a new epoch in
the Catholic history of this city and
section the last Sunday in January
when he dedicated the new and mag
nificent St. Mary’s Church, one of the
most stately church structures in all
Florida. Bishop Barry was assisted
by Rev. J. J. O’Riordan, S. T. L.,
pastor of St. Mary’s, to whom first
credit for the erection of St. Mary’s
and the other evidences of Catholic
life in this city must go.
Owing to the inability of Bishop
Barry to come to St. Petersburg
sooner, it was necessary to delay the
laying of the cornerstone until this
occasion, and the placing of the
cornerstone was therefore combined
with the dedication. In addition to
Father O’ Riordan, Rev. J. J. Bresna-
han of St. Mary’s and Rev. J. F. En
right, pastor of St. Paul’s, the cere
monies brought to St. Petersburg
priests not only from cities in all
parts of the Diocese but from many
distant points as well.
Work on the new St. Mary's has
been going on for about a year, the
construction activities starting March
10, 1929. The purchase by Father
O’Riordan of a portion of the grounds
of the Manhattan Hotel, as a site
necessitated the removal of that large
structure a distance of 100 feet west
of its former location. The new
church succeeds the old St. Mary's
which was torn down in 1928 after
fifteen years of services; it stood at
the corner of Fourth Street and Third
Avenue South.
Not only is the new St. Maiy’s an
edifice of ifare beauty, but it has a
location which enhances its attrac
tiveness and which Father O’Riordan
intends to make one of the show-
places of this section horticulturally
as well as architecturally. It is also
a spot of great historic interest; on
it was located the home of General
Williams, the founder of St. Peters
burg.
FR. BRESNAHAN OF ST.
MARY’S NOTED SPEAKER
Rev. J. J. Bresnahan, of St. Mary’s
Church, is one of the most widely
known priests in the Diocese of St.
Augustine. As pastor of the Church
of the Assumption, South Jackson
ville, Father Bresnahan did splendid
work, and in the growing city of St.
Petersburg he finds a splendid field
for his energetic activity. Father
Bresnahan is widely and favorably
known as a preacher and sermons he
has delivered on special occasions in
Florida and elsewhere have won him
an enviable reputation as a pulpit
orator.

Fresh Red Snapper-Deep Sea Grouper
WE say FRESH—WE MEAN—FRESH
And we ll tell you why—
In our fishing operations we use a certain- type and style of boat, known as the Diving Boat.
This type of boat is large enough to hold a satisfa ctory catch, but not large enough to allow fisher
men to stay out over a certain number of days, after which they must return with the catch, always
fresh.
The average’Deep Sea Fisherman is given a Large Smack which often remains in the fishing
grounds a month or more. That's entirely too long. Our Fish are always fresh and Good to Eat.
