CHICAGO.—Plans for the twenty-
third annual convention of the Catho
lic Press Association which is to be
held at Hotel Stevens, here, June 22,
23. and 24. are being completed.
Richard Reid. President of the As
sociation and editor of The Bulletin
of the Catholic Laymen's Aassociation
of Georgia, announces that Charles H.
Ridder, business manager of The
Catholic News, New York, and chair
man of the special Catholic Press
.Month committee of the Association
will address the convention on “Capi
talizing Press Month” at the Friday
afternoon session.
The Rev. William Schaefers, editor
of The Cathclic Advance, Wichita,
Khn., will speak on '‘Reader Interest. ’
F. Gordon O'Neill, editor of The
Monitor, San Francisco, will present
a paper on “Making Advertisers
Catholic Press Conscious.”
This will be followed by a pre
sentation of the recommendations of
the Advertising Bureau of the Cath
olic Press Association by Mai Murray,
chairman of the Bureau and advertis
ing manager of The Messenger of the
Sacred Heart, New York.
Thursday will be Magazine Day ana
Saturday afternoon the delegates will
be taken to the seminary at Munde
lein. 111., where His Eminence George
Cardinal Mundelein, Archbishop of
Chicago, will address them.

sey wall be announcer.
Other recent urograms sponsored by
Patrick Walsh Council, of which John
T. Buckley is grand knight, included
an address on “Patriotism” by C. C.
Stulb. Jr.. May 21, and one on “Joan
d'Arc” by Hugh Kinchley. May 28.
On the May 21 program there were
vocal numbers by Mrs. Wm. D.
O’Donoghue and James B. Mulherin.
with Mrs. J. Coleman Dempsey and
Miss Alice Doyle as accompanists; last
Sunday Miss Itala Punaro sang vocal
selections, with Miss Theresa Pu
naro as accompanist. The K. of C.
program is broadcast through the
courtesy of Station WRDW every
Sunday afternoon from 2:30 to 3:00,
Eastern Standard Time.

Operetta Presented
for Savannah Parish
“Chonita” Splendidly Staged
for Blessed Sacrament
Church

SAVANNAH. Ga. — “Chonita.” an
operetta, presented at the Municipal
Auditorium under the auspices of
the women's Auxiliary of Blessed
Sacrament parish, was a brililant
success. A concert by the Savannah
Philharmonic Orchestra enhanced
the splendid program. Principals in
the splendid cast included the Misses
Frances Elmore. Catherine Coyle,
Helen Haar. and Roger Stabfield,
James F. Glass, Carl Murken, Felix
Mendel and Joseph Mendel. Elrey
Helmy entertained with acrobatic
dances, and other dance numbers
completed the program which was
presented with professional skill.

Immaculate Conception Pu
pils Score in Drama
AUGUSTA. Ga. — The grammar
r.chool department of Immaculate
Conception School closed May 29 with
exerci:es featured by the presentation
of the play. “Tekawitha. the Lily of
the Mohawks.’’ splendidly presented
by a cast of forty directed by Mary
Gardner, a graduate of the New Eng
land Conservatory of Music at Boston.
The special scenery for the play and
the various scenes were most effec
tive, the scene of the death of Teka
witha being particularly striking. Af
ter the play eighteen graduates of
the grammar school received diplo
mas from the Rev. A. J. Laube, S.
M. A., pastor.
The high school exercises wore held
May 31. the commencement address
being delivered by the Rev. George
Diet?, raster of Mary. Help of Chris
tians, Church. Aiken, S. C. The Fran
ciscan Sisters teach the clashes at the
Immaculate Conception. School.

BELMONT, N. C.— William Baran
was re-elected captain of the Bel
mont Abbey College football team
and president of i the Monogram Club
at the recent elections. Dennis J.
Kearns, Augusta, was elected secre
tary and historian of the monogram
club. Louis Feldman was named
captain of the basketball team, and
Gerald Campbell, Baltimore, of the
baseball team. The Abbey College
football team won the junior
college championship of the state last
year under Captain Baran’s leader
ship. . •

PRIZE DRILL WINNER
Adjudged Best Drilled Bene
dictine School Cadet
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Cadet Henry
Brown, firt class private, was adjudg
ed the best drilled cadet of the Bene
dictine battalion in the annual
manual of arms drill, and awarded
the Jordan F. Brooks Memorial
Medal. Corp. William Hussey was
next. Cadet Brown is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Ed ward Brown. Others
awarded prizes were John Tarantino,
Joseph Cannarclla and Leo Galletta.
Lawrence Thompson was awarded
the prize for the last first-year cadet
left standing. Capt. Edward G.
Thompson, commandant of the,
cadets, supervised the drill. Judges
were Major Walter Corish and his
staff, Lieut. Henry Walsh, adjutant,
and Lieut. Eugene Curtis, supply of
ficer.
