So Father O’Hara Tells New
England Catholic Audience

WATERBURY, Conn.—Citing the
“non-Catholic discoverers of the
Catholic Church” and urging Cath
olics in this country to become more
enlightened concerning th e doctrines
of their Church, the Rev. John F.
O’Hara, C.S.C., vice-president of
Notre Dame University, in an ad
dress delivered at the Catholic Action
Pinner sponsored by the Knights of
Columbus, declared that President
Rccsevelt “discovered Catholic eco
nomics for us.”
“To our shame,” Father O’Hara
said, “the majority of educated Cath
olics in this country have been ig
norant,” he added, “in spite of the
fact that the Catholic press and Cath
olic schools stressed this Encyclical
in every way possible.”
Marian Nesbit, widely known con
tributor to American Catholic mag
azines, died at her home in London.
With her twin sister, who died 12
years ago, she was honored by the
Holy Father with the Cross “Pro
Ecclesia et Pontifice.” They were of
Irish extraction, from Waterford, and
converts.

Advertisers Announce Campaign
Forestall Government
Action
Nj£W YORK. — Within the week
definite progress has been reported in
a campaign to drive pornographic
magazines from the newstands and
a group of advertising executives
declared themselves in favor of fore
stalling government action against
objectionable film advertising by in
stituting a clean-up in the industry
itself.
The drive against indecent maga
zines is being conducted by the Cath
olic Interest Committee of the New
York Chapter of the Knights of Co
lumbus. The Chapter embraces all

K. of C. councils in Manhattan and
the Bronx, and its committee is now
able to announce that what was re
garded as the most offensive of the
indecent magazines has been barred
from sale in Bronx County. The
committee, it was said, has had the
full ce-operation of Bronx District
Attorney Samuel J. Foley.
Two daughters of the retiring Ja
panese ambassador to Belgium, Miss
Fusako Sato and Miss Mitsuko Sato,
have received into the Church in
Brussels. These conversions follow
those of the Japanese ambassador to
Poland, baptized a few months ago
on his deathbed, and of the tw'o
daughters of the Japanese consel-
