TEN THE BULLETIN OF THE CATHOLIC LAYMEN’S ASSOCIATION OF GEORGIA FEBRUARY 29, 1936 Mrs. J. T. Shanahan Is Dead in Augusta Was Resident of Georgia City and of Buffalo, N.Y. AUGUSTA, Ga.—Mrs. Maude Edna Shanahan, wife of John T. Shana han, of Augusta and Buffalo, N. Y., died here late in January after a serious illness of only ten days. Mrs. Shanahan was born in Glov- ersville. N. Y., July 4, 1882, and lived there and in Buffalo, where Mr. Shanahan had large manufacturing interests. Ten years ago Mr. and Mrs. Shanahan acquired a winter home in Augusta and had spent all but the summer months here since that time. The Shanahan home was a gathering place particularly for young people, in whom Mr. and Mrs. Shanahan took a deep interest. A few years ago they suffered a severe shock in the death of their son, Jack, in an automobile accident. Surviving Mrs. Shanahan are two daughters. Miss Ellen M. Shanahan and Miss Josephine Shannahan; two sons, James C. Shanahan and Thomas Shanahan, Augusta; her sister, Mrs. A. L. Franck, and two brothers, Allen Craig and Carl Craig, of Gloversville. N. Y. The funeral was held from St. Mary's-on-The-Hill Church with a High Mass of Requiem; interment was in Westover Cemetery. Col. Butler Catholic Association Leader (Special to The Bulletin) SAVANNAH; Ga—Col. John G. Butler, who has served as president of the Catholic Association since 1924, was re-elected at the annual meeting held last week. Arrange ments were made to paint the exte rior of the building of the Associa tion. which is the home of the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Women's Club and other Catholic organizations. Other officers elected included Joseph B. Maddock, vice- president. Charles F. Powers treas urer. James J. Monahan secretary and Dan J. Sheehan assistant secre tary. Brown and the late Mrs. Brown, and wide ly known in Savannah entered the novitiate of the Little Sisters of the Poor in Baltimore. Miss Brown is an alumna graduate of St. Vincent Academy here and of Mt. de Sales Academy in Macon. Benedictine Alumni at Savannah Elect Julian Halligan Again Heads Association There (Special to The Bulletin) SAVANNAH, Ga. — Julian C. Halligan was re-elected president of the Benedictine Alumni Association at the annual meeting. The other of ficers included: J. P. Corish, first vice president; H. Bouhan Heads Savannah Belmonters Elected President of Abbey College Alumni There (Special to The Bulletin) SAVANNAH, Ga. — John J. Bou han, a leading member of the Geor gia bar and city attorney here, was elected president of the Belmont Ab bey Alumni of Savannah at a recent meeting at the Hotel Savannah. There are 84 members of the organi zation, and 52 attended. Charles J. Groves was elected vice president, William Canty secretary, and Robert Rossiter treasurer. Julius Fine, field organizer, addressed the meeting. A committee on by-laws composed of Mr. Bouhan, Mr. Groves, Mr. Canty, William Dudley and the Very Rev. Boniface Bauer, O.S.B., pastor of Sa- cred Heart Church, was appointed. Mrs. Louisa Jaworsky Dies in Augusta at 75 AUGUSTA, Ga„—Mrs. Louisa M. Jaworsky, widow of Edward Jawor sky, one of the oldest members of St. Mary’s-on-The-Hill parish, died here last week at the age of 75. Mrs. Jaworsky was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Gain, na tives of Germany, and is survived by her daughter, Miss Annie W. Jaw orsky, two sons. Charles A. Jawor sky and Edward H. Jaworsky. and her brother, William J. Gain, all of Augusta. Tile funeral was held from St. Mary’s-On-The-Hill with a Re quiem Mass; interment was in Mag nolia Cemetery. AUGUSTA, Ga.—James A. Cashin a member of a pioneer Augusta Cath olic family, and for many years in the shoe business here, died last week at the age of 66. Mr. Cashin was born in Augusta and was a lifelong resi dent of the city. Mr. Cashin was a member of St. Patricks Church since infancy, and the funeral was held from St. Pat rick's. the Rev. Leo M. Keenan, pas tor officiating. Interment was in Mag nolia Cemetery. Pallbearers were his nephews. D. J. Bowles, Lawrence F. Cashin- Harry L. Cashin. J. J. Cash in, E. J. Cashin and William Cash in. Surviving Mr. Cashin are this wife, Mrs. Mary H. Cashin, his daughter. Miss Ag ies Cashin, two sons, James and Bernard Cashin. his brother. Thomas F. Cashin and his sister. Mrs. D J. Bowles, Jr., all of Augusta. Mrs. Mary Burdick of Augusta Parish Dies AUGUSTA, Ga.—Mrs, Mary Bur dick, member of St. Mary's-on-The- K ill Church, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Forest A. Gay, after an illness of ten days. Mrs. Burdick was the widow of the late B. B, Burdick. She was a na tive of Ireland and came to this coun try at an early age. The Rev. John J. Kennedy offici ated at the funeral at St. Mary’s-on- The-Hill; interment was in Magnolia Cemetery. Mrs. Burdick is survided by three daughters, Mrs. Leo P. Loony, Mrs. Robert L. Gay and Mrs. Forest A Gay; one brother. Dan H. Bolster; two sisters. Miss Nellie Bolster and Mrs. Lucy Garwood; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
