Mrs..Emma Karwisch Dies in Cincinnati Funeral of Former Georgian Held From Atlanta Church ATLANTA, Ga. — Mrs. Emma Karwisch, former Atlantian and a member of a pioneer family here, died in Cincinnati early in July after a brief illness. Mrs. Karwisch was 78 years old, and had been living in Cin cinnati for a quarter of a century. The remains were brought to Atlanta; the funeral was held from Sacred Heart Church, the Very Rev. James T. Reilly, S. M., pastor of Sacred Heart Church, officiating at the fun eral Mass; interment was in Austell, Ga. Surviving Mrs. Karwisch are her son, Alfred B. Karwisch, her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Kisker, and six grand children. MRS. MARY R. DUTTON - The funeral of Mrs. Mary R. Dunton, a member of Sacred Heart Church, who died late in June, was held from the parish church with a Requiem Mass, the Rev. M. S. O’Donnell and the Rev. Louis Emmerth, S. M., officiating. Interment was in the National Ceme tery at Marietta. The annual motorcade of the council to St. Joseph’s Home for Boys at Washington, June 28, was a great success. Twenty-one cars were in line behind an escort of motor cycle police. Q □ RETREAT -i d The council is doing more than approving the annual Retreat. Deputy Grand Knight Hollowell is providing transportation for retreat- ants without it. At a recent meeting at Sacred Heart Rectory for the purpose of forming a unit of the Holy Name Society, every man present was a member of Atlanta Council. Henry T. Lynch Dies at His Dawson Home Native of Brooks County Widely Known in South Georga uiii.fv I. MOORE—President (Special to The Bulletin) DAWSON, Ga. — Henry Thomas Lynch, for many years a resident of Terrell County, died at his home here on June 23 after an illness of several months. The son of the late Thomas Lynch, a native of County Cavan, Ireland,, and Virginia Duke Lynch, of Lowndes County, Mr. Lynch was born at Quitman, Brooks County, De cember 16, 1866. He had farmed in this section and at one time was a member of the Albany Police Depart ment. Had he lived two days later his 45th wedding anniversary would have been celebrated by his wife and himself. He is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss. Margaret Shea, of Boston, Georgia, a daughter, Mrs. John J. McCreary, of Macon, two sisters, Mrs George C. Dillon, of Dawson, and Mrs. Frank Hall, of Val dosta, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. James H. Lynch, of Albany, and several grandchildren. He was the father of James H. and Thomas S. Lynch, both charter members of Fr. Prendergast Council 2057, at Albany, who had served as grand knight and financial secretary, respectively, but who died in recent years. Mr. Lynch was the only Catholic male resident of Terrell County. A Requiem Mass at his home was said by the Rev. Henry Honeck, of Al bany, and services were concluded at the graveside in Chickasawhatchee Cemetery. The funeral was attended by numerous of his non-Catholic friends who were quite impresesd by Father Honeck’s exposition of the Catholic Doctrine of purgatory. 40 St. Joseph Boys Undergo Operations Physicians and Nurses Vol unteer Services for Minor Surgical Treatment (Special to The Bulletin) WASHINGTON, Ga.—Six physi cians and twelve nurses turned St. Joseph’s Home here into a surgical ward late in June when they gave their services for the performing of minor operations such as the removal on tonsile from about forty boys at the home. The doctors, who are not Catholics, were Dr. R. E. Newberry, Dr. H. F. McDuffie, Dr. Charles Lawrence. Dr. J. C. Ivey, of Atlanta, and Dr. H. T. Harriss, of Washington; Dr. Lewis M. Patton, of Athens, also answered a call in connection with the surgi cal treatment. Assisting the doctors were the fol lowing nurses from St. Joseph's Hos pital: Miss Anna Massel, Miss Roselle Barron, Miss Sara Dicey, Miss Un dine Power, Miss Inez Duckworth, Miss Elsie Romano, Miss Irma Myer, Miss Sara Blasingame, Miss Eliza beth Carey, Miss Schaupp, Miss Hor ton and Mrs. R. E. Newberry. FATHER R. A. McGOWAN told the Institute of Public Affairs at the Uni versity of Virginia that it is the func tion of the church to teach its follow ers and all who are willing to listen the moral and religious laws of eco nomic and governmental life, and in spire them to act. There is grave need of an economic democracy in the United States, Father McGowan said.
