MRS. KEENAN DIES IN
AUGUSTA SUDDENLY
Bishop Presides at Funeral
of Mother of Pastor of St.
Patrick’s Church
AUGUSTA, Ga.— Mrs. Catherine
Anne Keenan, mother of the Rev.
Leo M. Keenan, pastor of St. Patrick’s
Church, and widow of Hugh Keenan
of Patterson, N. J., died here late in
July after an' illness of only one day.
Mrs. Keenan, who made her home
with Father Keenan, was stricken
suddenly after returning from an au
tomobile ride with Father Keenan;
she failed to rally and died the day
following.
Mrs. Keenan was born in Kings
ton, N. J., sixty-five years ago. and
came south about fifteen years ago to
be with Father Keenan when he was
made pastor of St. Theresa’s Church
and the Southwest Georgia missions.
She endeared herself to the people
of Albany, and to those of Augusta
where she came when Father Keen
an was appointed pastor of St. Pat
rick’s about six years ago. Surviving
in addition to Father Keenan are
another son, Joseph R. Keenan of
Patterson, her daughter, Mrs. James
H. Lynch of Albany, and eight
grandchildren.
The Most Rev. Gerald P. O’Hara,
D. D., Bishop of Savannah, presided
at the Solemn Mass Coram Episcopo,
at the funeral at St. Patrick’s Church;
Father Keenan was celebrant of the
Mass, the Rev. J. E. O’Donohoe, S. J.,
of Sacred Heart Church was deacon
the Rev. A. Sittler, S. M. A., of the
Church of the Immaculate Concep
tion sub-deacon, the Rev. John M.
McCreary, S. J., and the Rev. M. A.
Cronin, S. J., assistants to Bishop
O'Hara, and the Rev. Harold J. Barr,
rector of the Cathedral of St. John
the Baptist, Savannah, Master of
Ceremonies. The clergy of the city,
and the Rev. James E. King, pastor of
St. Joseph Church, Athens, were
present in the sanctuary.

tery, Bishop O’Hara officiating, as
sisted by Father Keenan, Father Barr,
and the clergy present. Pallbearers
were Marion C. Stulb, Frank Egbert,

Mrs. Keenan was beloved by all
who knew her; in Albany and Au
gusta she endeared herself to the
parisoners and to the others with
whom she came in contact. She was
gentle and kindly, and friendly to all
and her death creates a great void in
the parish and in the city.
