CHARLOTTE, N. C. — The Rev.
Maurice McDpnnell, O.S.B., a former
pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Sa
vannah, was installed as pastor of
St. Peter’s Church here the first
Sunday in October, succeeding the
Rev. Ambrose Gallagher, O.S.B., for
several years pastor, who retires be
cause of ill health. Father Ambrose
is a native of Charlotte and one, of
the city’s outstanding and most es
teemed citizens; during his years as
pastor the splendid O’DonogHue
School Was erected.
Father Maurice, a native of Con
cord, N. H., was educated there, al
St. Anselm’s College, Manchester, N.
H., and Belmont Abbey College and
Seminary, being ordained December
21. 1916. Recently he has been chip-
lain at Mercy Hospital here.
The Rev. David J. Foulkes, S.J., of
the Southern Mission Band of the
Jesuit Fathers delivered the installa
tion sermon at the Solemn High
Mass, of which Father Maurice was
celebrant. Father Stephen Dowd. O.
S. B., deacon. Father Rembert Codd,
O. S. B., sub-deacon, and Father
Philip Tierney, O. S. B., master of
ceremonies.
