PROTESTANTS HEAR
CHURCH EXPLAINED
Jewish Group Also Comes to
St. Joseph’s, Athens, for
Discourses by Father Barr
(Special to The Bulletin)
ATHENS, Ga.—When several Pro
testant Sunday School groups of this
city under the leadership of their pas
tors requested the Rev. Harold J. Barr,
pastor of St. Joseph’s Church, to ad
dress them on Catholic topics, Fother
Barr said he would'be pleased to do
so in a neutral place. They however
requested that the discussions be in
St. Joseph’s Church, and the first sych
address was delivered to about 150
Athens Methodists.
Father Barr discussed the Catholic
leaching on the Blessed Viagin Mary
tlie use of statues, Confesion and simi
lar subjects, following it with an open
forum during which they were re-
guested to ask questions. These ques
tions principally concerned the Bible,
the Mass, celibacy, Catholic marriage
and such topics. The group request
ed another such engagement. About
150 attended.
The second group was composed of
about 60 Jews, to whom Father Ban-
spoke on the vestments, the Sacrifice
of the Old and of the New Law, and
the prophecies of the Old Law about
the Messiah. The third group was made
up of Presbyterians.
BROTHERHOOD DAY at Athens
was marked by a conference at the
University of Georgia, with Father
Barr, the Rev. Claude E. Fullerton and
Rabbi Lawrence A. Block as speakers;
Hon. Abit Nix was chairman. Dr. T.
H. McHatton was a member of the
local committee.
FATHER BARR has an adult Catho
lic Study Club each Wednesday eve
ning. with an average attendance of
35. The club is studying the Mass, has
completed the consideration of the
Mass as a Sacrifice and has started a
study of the vestments.
