Gerald P. O'Hara, Bishop of Savan- nah-Atlanta, discussed the Madonna in Art before the High Museum of Art as the famed painting, “Madonna and Chilr” by Christoforo Caselli, re cently presented the museum by Mrs. Samuel Henry Kress, was unveiled April 12. Walter C. Hill, president, of the Atlanta Art Association, open ed the meeting, introducing Lewis P. Skidmore, director of the museum, who gave a short history of the paint ing, who presented J. J. Haverty, K. S. G., who stressed the part that re ligion has played in art. Mr. Hav- ery then presented Bishop O'Hara, the principal speaker. Miss Julia Block unveiled the painting. ATLANTA LAWYERS named to draft city and county legislation in clude Stephens Mitchell and John B. McCallum, members of a commis sion appointed by President John T. Dennis, of the Atlanta Bar Associa tion. Mr. Mitchell is a former presi- J. P. Coyne, Florida, Auto Crash Victim Native of Atlanta Had Been in Jacksonville 20 Years (Special To The Bulletin) ATLANTA, Ga.—J. Prince Coyne, a former resident of Atlanta, his native city, died in Florida earlv in April of injuries sustained in an automobile accident at New Smyrna, Fla. Mr. Coyne was a graduate of Georgia Tech and prior to going to Florida about twenty years ago he was asso ciated with his father, the late Charles M. Coyne, in the electrical business. He was president of the Truck Equip ment Company of Jacksonville at the time of his death. Surviving are his wife, his daughter, Mrs. R. L. Hoper, Jacksonville; his mother, Mrs. Mattie Coyne, three sisters, Mrs. John Buck- ley, Mrs. Clarence Massa and Mrs. James Pickens Taylor, and a brother. Frank M. Coyne. Atlanta. The funeral was held in Jacksonville, with inter ment in Decatur . Cemetery here, the Rev. John A. Emmerth, S. M., officiat ing. dent of the Atlanta Bar Association and Mr. McCallum a former president of the Atlanta Lawyers’ Club- MARIST STUDENTS’ MISSION CRUSADE Atlanta School Hears Ad dresses by Noted Mis sionaries (By W T illiam Burdewald) ATLANTA, Ga.—Intellectual, so cial and spiritual enrichment of life are pirme objects of education. We experience the intellectual side of our development in the manifold studies of the curriculum. Social activities are interwoven in and out of the class rooms, the various organizations and home life of the students. In the midst of all these, we find that students have deep religious convictions and really love to express outwardly their religious belief. Stu dents visit the church, attend their Sunday schools and engage in many reliigOus activities. One of the flourishing activities of Marist is the Marist Students’ Mission Crusade. This society aims to help the va rious missions at home and abroad. The field is great, the workers few, and the material help scarce. The students of this crusade pledge them- -■ives to help bear the burden of spreading the faith at home and in foreign lands. Prayer, sacrifice and almsgiving are the weapons used to combat irreligion. Study and the dissemination of knowledge are posi tive helps to this end. therefore, a special aim is to provide educational material, such as books and magazines as will attract the religious interest of the people. The officers of the crusade are Charles Hopkins, president; Vincent Kane, vice-president; and William Bindewald, secretary-treasurer. Several notable speakers have al ready appeared on the program of this organization. Father Philip Dagneau. S. M., gave a-description of the missions of Georgia and of Idaho. The Rev. Father Le Plante, a mis sionary of the South Sea Islands, spent several days in our midst. Happily for us he had with him moving pictures of his missions in the Fijii Islands. These pictures showed the strange customs of those Islanders, the modes of transporta tion. the teaching of the young and the healing of the sick. The follow ing day Father Le Plante gave a lec ture on these same missions. A third treat was a talk on voca tions by the Rev. William Lonegan, S. M.. director of the Marist mis sionaries in the Uinted States. He urged the students to think of the mission fields when they were map- Mrs. Bertha Goette Is Dead in Atlanta Was Widow of Henry Goette, Formerly of Savannah (Special to The Bulletin) SAVANNAH, Ga.—Mrs. Bertha Johnston Goette, a native of Atlanta and for twenty years previous to her return here fifteen years ago a red- dent of Savannah, died early in April. Mrs. Goette was the widow of Henry Goette, at one time manager of the Savannah City Directory Co. Sur viving are her sister, Mrs. John H. Owen, Atlanta, and several nephews and nieces. The funeral was held from St. Anthony’s Church, the Rev. N. J Quinlan officiating. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery. CANADA’S .
