M., of Sacred Heart Church officiated at the marriage of Miss Ann Lowther, daughter of the late O. Hampton Lowther and Mrs. Lowther and granddaughter of the late U. S. Judge William Wallace lowther, and Richard Watters Whit tle, son of the late John P. Whittle and Mrs. Whittle of Covington, Ky., Mrs. Whittle was educated at North Fulton High, Washington Seminary and St. Genevieve-of-the-Pines; Mr. Whittle, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, taught school at Coving ton and is now with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad freight-traffic de partment, Atlanta office. He is a bro ther of Father Austin Whittle, C. P., of Holy Cross Monastery, Chicago. O- I HOPKJNS-STERNE ATLANTA, Ga.—The marriage of Miss Helen Hill Hopkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Jere miah O’Hara of St. Patrick’s Church officiated at the marriage of Miss Sarah Theresa Sheahan, daughter of E. B. Sheahan and the late Mrs. Shea han. and Harris S. Savannah Student Spring Hill Leader Burke McEHinn Is Valedictorian 1938 SAVANNAH, Ga—Burke McEllinn, son of Mrs. Marguerite McEHinn, will be the valedictorian at the annual graduation exercises, May 21, at Spring Hill College, in Mobile. It is the third time the Savannahian hah received such an honor, achieving the same distinction both at Marist School for Boys, and Benedictine School here in 1930 and 1934 respectively. BISHOP O’HARA was the celebrant of the Mass at St Mary’s Home when a class of seven children received First Holy Communion. Bishop O'Hara was assisted by the Rev. Norbert Mc Gowan, O. S. B., chaplain of St Mary’s. BISHOP O’HARA donated $25 to ward the funds for the silver service set presented the new cruiser, U. S. S. Savannah, upon its arrival here May 20. For The Fourth Year In A Row Georgia Keeps Her Leadership Georgia is ahead again—for the fourth’ consecutive year! Georgia measure! up hy the modem yardstick of progress in better living—the use of eleetrid service in the home. Here are the figures to prove it: In 1937, for the fourth consecutive year, Georgia stood First East of the Rockies in average use of electric service in the home and Fourth in the Nation* (The national average use of electric service in the home last year was 802 kilowatt hours; the average for Georgia was 1,195 kilowatt hours; the aver age for Georgia homes served by the Georgia Power Company was 1,313 kilowatt hours.) DEAN-BURKE -O - U Father Kavanagh of the Cathedral, officiated at the marriage of Miss Rosemary Dean to Thomas John Burke. Mrs. Burke is the grand daughter of Mrs. Margaret Bridget Scully. THE .ROMAN ROTA upheld the validity of 36 marriages and declared 20 null and void during 1937. In 1936 there were 23 annulments and in the preceding year 35, from the entire Catholic world.
