D., Arch bishop of Baltimore and metropolitan of the Province of Baltimore, singing the dedicatory Mass, the beautifu and stately Co-Cathedral of Chris the King was dedicated here Wed nesday, January 18, * in one of the most impressive and historically sig nificant ceremonies in the history o the Church in the entire South At lantic States. Attending the ceremony in addition to His Eminence and Archbishop Curley were three other Archbishops, ten Bishops, five Abbots, twent; Monsignori and one hundred an, twenty priests, the greatest gatherin of prelates the state and perhaps tin Southeast have even seen. The num ber of nuns at the ceremony also is believed to have set a record for the state. The dedication of the Co-Cathedra! preceded the Mass, the procession leaving the rectory for the church, into which the congregation had no! yet been admitted. The dedication consisted in the blessing of the ex terior of the church, the blessing ot the interior and the blessing of the altars. The Most Rev. Gerald O’Hara, D. D., Bishop of Savannah-Atlanta. had anticipated Wednesday's cere mony by dedicating the minor altars two days before. After the ceremony of blessing or dedication, the Cardinal and his at-, tendants returned to the rectory, where the formal procession for the Mass was formed. First came the cross-bearer, then the Marist Broth ers from Savannah^ the clergy, the superiors of religious orders, mon signori, who are members of the Pa pal Household, Abbots, Bishops, Archbishops, the Bishop of the Dio cese, the celebrant of the Mass an. his attendants, and His Eminence'and his attendants. The Rev. T. James McNamara, rec tor of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Savannah, was archpriest to His Eminence, the Rev. Salvator M. Burgio, C. M., of Philadelphia, mas ter of ceremonies to the Cardinal, and the Rev. Thomas A. Brennan. (Continued on Page Eleven) Hon. E. D. Rivers Bishop OHara welcoming distinguished guests to Atlanta. Archbishop Curley of Baltimore, metropolitan of the province, who officiated at the Solemn Pontifical Mass, and Bishop Papal Blessing Sen! for the Dedication His Eminence, Eugenio Cardinal Pacelli, Papal Secre tary of State, in a radiogram to His Excellency, Bishop O’Hara, received the day of the day of the dedication of the Co-Cathedral of Chris! the King, conveys the blessing of the Holy Father in these words: “On the occasion of the blessing of the new Cathedra! of Christ the King the Holy Father gladly imparts hie Apostolic Benediction to Hit! Eminence. Your Excellency, your Diocesans and all partici pating.” The Most Rev. Amleto Cicognani, D. D., Apstolic Del egate to the United States, also sent his felicitations and blessing in a telegram to Bishop O’Hara.
