(Editorial in Die Milledgeville
Times)
Citizens of Milledgeville from all
walks of life assembled Monday
night to bid farewell to a great
man.
The occasion was open house held
in honor of the Rev. T. James Mc
Namara by ladies of the Eucharistic
League at the rectory of the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church.
A resident of Milledgeville for the
last seven years, Father McNamara
leaves today to begin his duties as
rector of the Cathedral of St. John,
in Savannah, a position to which he
was recently promoted.
In Father McNamara’s departure,
Milledgeville will suffer a distinct
loss from a religious, civic and social
standpoint. He has long been a lead
ing figure in affairs of the town and
county, and has given unselfishly of
his time and resources in an effort
to better conditions here.
As chairman of the Baldwin Coun
ty Red Cross chapter and chairman
of the Baldwin County Welfare
Board. Father McNamara’s benevo
lence has been widespread. In many
instances personal efforts on his part
have enabled worthy people to re
ceive relief after they had been re
fused at every other source for tech
nical or other reasons-
As an active member of the Ki-
wanis Club he is directly responsi
ble for various projects for com
munity improvement sponsored by
that civic group. In addition, he
personally has completed many
such projects which he individually
undertook.
Father McNamara will long be re
membered by Milledgeville. Results
of his tireless and unselfish work

new work. We regret deeply that he
has been transferred from this com

by his superiors.
