St. Joseph’s Infirmary, Atlanta
Founded in 1880. St Joseph's has now entered on its sixty-first year of service to Atlanta and the surrounding territory. Enlarged and complete-
l v reno\a ted within the last few years, St. Joseph’s is now one of the most modernly equipped and most efficiently operated hospitals in the South.

Two years ago the new Diagnostic Out-Patient Department was established to serve the rural poor who lack such facilities in their own com

Memory of Patrick Long
COLUMBIA, S. C. — In acknow
ledgement of the very substantial
contribution made by Miss Helen M.
Long of Nepcnsit, Long Island, to
ward the construction of St. Pat
ricks Church, erected in Olympia
Mill Village last year, a handsome
bronze tablet has been placed in the
vestibule of the church.
The tablet bears the inscription:
“Pray for the Soul of Patrick
Long, in whose Memory a gener
ous donation was made to this
Church through the Catholic Ex
tension Society.”
Serving the cotton mill section of
South Carolina's Capital City, St.
Patrick's Church is the fruit of the
effort of the Very Reverend Martin
C. Murphy, pastor of St. Peter's
Church, and the generosity of donors
like Miss Long, whose bountiful con
tribution was a memorial to her
father.

for a number of years discount teller
at the Citizens and Southern National
Bank here, was named assistant
cashier at a meeting of the board of
directors held in Savannah. "
Mr. Price, who is a member of
the Sacred Heart parish, of the Ca
tholic Laymen’s Association, and the
Knights of Columbus, began his ca
reer with the Citizens and Southern
Bank in 1923. He is a native of
Leesville; S. C-, but has made his
home in Augusta for a number of
years. Mrs- Price Is the former Miss
Lillian Morgan, of Graymont. They
have two children.

Summer Camp Sponsored

GREENVILLE, S. C. — St. Mary's
Guild, of Greenville, sponsored a
camp for girls, held at St. Ann's
Camp, Rocky Bottom, N. C., from
July 21 to July 28. The Rev. Sidney
Dean was director of the camp, and
reservations wer'e made through Miss
Edna Seaman, and Mrs. Joseph Put
nam.
On Sunday, June 23, the girls of
the Greenville Deanery attend Mass
at St. Paul's Church, in Spartanburg,
and heard the Rev. Francis O. Ferri
deliver a sermon on “Evils of Indivi
dualism and Fruits of Cooperation’.
After Mass a communion breakfast
was served at the Hotel Cleveland,
the Rev. William G. Mulvihill, chap
lain of St. Francis Hospital, Green
ville, delivering the invocation. Miss
Mary Slattery, of Washington, D. C.,
was an honored guest at the break
fast and made a brief talk. Miss
Slattery, who is formerly from Green
ville, was cordially welcomed as she
had taken a prominent part in the
activity of St. Mary’s parish.
A picnic, attended by the girls and
boys of the Greenville Deanery was
held at Paris Mountain State Park on
July 7.
Florida Laymen
Make Retreat
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The fifth
annual retreat conducted by the
Northeast Florida Laymen’s Retreat
Association was held at St. Joseph’s
Church, Loretto, Florida, from Friday,
June 14, through Sunday, June_ 16.
Officiating as Retreat Master, R'ev.
Austin L- Wagner, S. J-, held the un
divided attention of the retreatants in
his clearly expressed discourses on the
Real Presence, the Necessity for Fre
quent Communion, Parish Organiza
tion, and the Meaning of Proyer.
The retreat movement in this sec
tion has been gaining momentum
steadily from the nucleus of 21 men,
who attended the first retreat held
live years ago. The Spiritual Direc
tor for the association is Rev- R. E.
Philbin of St. Paul’s Church, Jack
sonville.
W. L. Brenner. Jr., of Jacksonville,
was elected president of the associa
tion for the coming year at the busi
ness session held on the closing day,
with Claude M. Legh, also of Jackson
ville, as First Vice-President and Sec
retary. The following Vice-Presidents
were appointed for the purpose of
promoting the retreat movement in
their respective parishes: A. E. Bro-
deur, St. Paul’s, Jacksonville, J. W-
Mead. Immaculate Conception. Jack
sonville; H. E- Duvall, Holy Rosary,
Jacksonville; M. V. Costello, Church
of the Assumption, South Jackson
ville; Charles O. Saunders, St. Paul’s,
Jackosnville Beach; B- J. Pilinski,
St. Joseph's. Loretto; H. M. Rapp, St.
