Benedictine Cadet
Officers Receive
ROTC Commissions
SAVANNAH, Ga.— Charles R. Ray,
son o£ Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Ray, was
named cadet major of the R. O. T. C.
unit at Benedictine Military School
when the formal appointments were
made at a dance held in the school
armory.
Brigadier General Lewis H. Brere-
ton, commanding officer of the Sa
vannah Air Base at Hunter Field was
the guest of honor at the affair, and
presented the commissioned officers
with their commissions.' Col. Jun
ius H. Houghton, base executive of
ficer was also an honored guest.
Commissions, on parchment, were
awarded to Battalion Adjutant Ed
ward J Sanders. Cadet Captains
Harry J. Perrse, Frank J. Lupo, and
Thomas J. McGinn; and Cadet Lieu
tenants William P. Elliott, Seymour
H. Raskin. Thomas J. Doley, Law
rence S. Bobziner, Eugene C. Mur
phy, Leon Slotin, and Samuel G.
Bruce.
Lieutenant Col. Severn T. Wallis is
professor of military science and tac
tics at the school.

“OPEN HOUSE" FOR SOLDIERS
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Savannah
Council, Knights of Columbus has
announced that open house will be
observed at the K. of C. Hall for all
Catholic soldiers stationed with the
Seventieth Bombardment Group at
Hunter Field.
Staff Sergeant Joseph V. Mossman,
a member of Thomas Dongan Coun
cil, Brooklyn, addressed a recent
meeting of the Council at which plans
were discussed for the distribution
of cards containing a prayer for
peace on Armistice Day.
Gordon Whelan has been named
trustee of the Council, succeeding J.
A. Alvarez, who resigned.

SAVANNAH, PLANS RECEPTION
SAVANNAH, Ga.—A reception was
planned for the afternoon of Sunday,
October 27, by the Catholic Women’s
Club at its first fall meeting, at which
Mrs. J. S. Howkins presided. This re
ception will be held in the club rooms
and Mrs. J. P. McDonough will be
the general chairman of the com
mittee in charge.

Teachers’ Institute of the Diocese of
Savannah-Atlanta, held under the
patronage of the Most Rev. Gerald
P. O'Hara, D. D„ J. U. D„ with the
Right Rev. Monsignor . James Mc
Namara, Diocesan Superintendent of
Schools, presiding, met in Savannah
on October 14-15 and in Atlanta on
October 17-18.
Teachers from the Savannah-
Brunswick-Augusta district attended
the session in Savannah, while teach
ers from the Atlanta-Macon-Colum-
bus district attended the sessions
held in Atlanta. The Savannah
