Ga.—At the meet ing of Savannah Council, No. 631, Knights of ColurrjJjus, held on June 10, A. J. Schano was elected grand knight to succeed John M Brennan. Other officers elected included L. J. Steiber, deputy grand knight; Leon Michel, chancellor; Francis Puder, recorder; J. A. Kearny, treasurer; Carlos Desposito, advo cate; Joseph Rossiter, Jr., warden; William K. Robinson, inside guard; Edward Rogerson, outside guard; Joseph P. Doyle, outside guard! Edward Rabin, Henry Ray and M. C. McCarthy, trustees. Plans were discussed for the ex emplification of the major degrees on June 28 upon a class that would be dedicated to the Rev. Robert Brennan, O. S. B„ the council chaplain. The Council voted to contribute $100 to the USO War Fund Cam paign now being conducted throughout the nation. A motion picture, “China and the Western Front,” and a sport film, were shown at the conclu sion of the business session. George Steiber, Walter Powers and William Saunders, Sr., were selected as a sick committee for the coming month. IMPRESSIVE SPECTACLE AT CATHEDRAL IN SAVANNAH An inspiring demonstration oi loyalty and devotion to God and Country was the attendance of 1,000 men, 700 of whom were in the uniforms of the armed forces of the United States ,at a Mass celebrated recently by the Right Rev. Msgr. T. James McNamara a” the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah. Soldiers from Camp Stewart, Fort Screven and the Savannah Air Base ^th a naval contingent from Cockspur Island, and U. S. Marines from Parris Island, gathered in the Park Extension, and headed by a.T army ban A marched to the Cathedral where they were joined by several hundred men, members of the Holy Name Society from the several parish^ m Savannah. Following the Mass a Communion breakfast was served at the De Soto Hotel. ** RETREAT FOR WOMEN HELD IN AIKEN, S. C. (Special to The Bulletin) AIKEN, S. C. — The Very Rev. Edwin Shearer, C. SS. R., pastor of Holy Trinity Church, Orangeburg, conducted the annual Retreat for the lay women of the Diocese of Charleston, held at St. Angela’s Academy, June 23, 24, and 25. BISHOP O’HARA CONFIRMS AT CHURCH IN ALBANY ALBANY, Ga. — The Sacrament of Confirmation was administered at St. Theresa’s Church here on May 28 by the Most Rev. Gerald P. O’Hara, D. D., J. U. D., Bishop of Savannah-Atlanta, the class in cluding a number of officers and enlisted men from Turner Field. Among those confirmed were Alicia Gallagher, Katherine Butt, Daniel Harrison, Eileen Hennen, Aloysius Hernandez, Clementine Hernandez, Vance Hubble, Hart well Hubble, Jeanette Leben, Don ald Mock, Francis Mock, Francis Myler, Jerry Myler, Thomas Myl- er, Thomas Pinkston, James Saw yer, Mary Vickers, Mrs. W. A. Adams, Miss Billie Barry;! Mrs. Cornelius Kramer, Mrs. Laura L. Gilligan, Mrs. Mary Hennen and Miss Lucy Hanning. St. Benedict’s, Savannah, Commencement Exercises (Special to The Bulletin) SAVANNAH, Ga. — St. Bene dict’s Junior High School held its commencement exercises on June 1 in the school auditorium. Hester Jackson delivered the valedictory; Marie Eurice Smith, the salutatory; Marie Lester, the class poem; Louis Milton Stepher- son, the class colors; Charles John son, the class yell; Lillian Berna dette Butler, the class flower^ and Vincent Dorman was the class spokesman. Graduation exercises were held jointly with St. Mary’s School at St. Benedict’s Church, on June 3, with the Most Rev. Gerald P. O’Hara, D. D., J. U. D., Bishop of Savannah-Atlanta, awarding the diplomas. VARIETY PROGRAM AT MACON NCCS CLUB MACON, Ga. — Between five and six hundred soldiers were in the audience that enjoyed a va riety program presented recently at the USO Club operated here by the National Catholic Community Service. Lewis Wilson, aided by Roy Rhodenhiser, opened the program with a magical act. Miss Rita Woodall offered a group of songs. Ted Mesh, Company D, 13th Bat talion, was heard in a trumpet solo. Private Barbato, t former ly of Erie, Pa., was presented in songs. Lewis De Stefano, of Al toona, Pa., offered tap dance rou tines. The final number, a juggling act, was presented by a former professional, Private Billy Tirko, Allentown, Pa. Private Paul Vans- ton, Scranton, Pa., accompanied the musical and dance numbers. PROGRAM PRESENTED AT SAVANNAH USO CLUB SAVANNAH, Ga. — Participa tion of several of Savannah’s out standing musicians in a Sunday evening musical tea at the USO Club operated by the National Catholic Community Service adc> ed to the enjoyment of a prograis arranged by Mrs. A. D. Bergen. Appearing on the program were Miss Lois Pugh, as song leader, and Rudolph Jacobson, violonist, with Mrs. A. Gruber at the piano. Miss Mary Hohenstein was chair man of the committee serving re freshments. LORD LOVAT, who led the Commando raid on Boulogne, is a Catholic, as was the leader of the Commando raids on Denmark, Brigadier Haydon.
